You could achieve the same effect by having seven smaller lasers firing in tandem.

Viktor, a proper description of what she's firing would be a Raser or Rb.A.S.E.R.: a Rainbow Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation. A rainbow doesn't burn your ass, bro.

A rainbow with high intensity of light could. And a Raser just... makes no sense, and it doesn't exist. I can't indulge in another pointless discussion about Lux's ultimate, it is not a laser. End of story - just enjoy the joke!

monochromeality or otherwise known as temporal coherence is not required of a laser. as a laser by definition is any source that emits light though stimulated emission of radiation. all lasers have a spectrum though which they emit light, therefore are not perfectly monochromeatic and the faster the burst of laser is the wider the spectrum of light that is emited. this is due to the fourier limit, the shorter the pulse the shorter the themporal length, and the shorter the themporal length the more a laser is spread over the em-bandwidth also the shorter the time scale of a laser pulse the larger the peak power usage is. therefore it can be used in such applications as ablative burning such as in the ablation of the faces of one's enemies. so due to the short duration of lux's laser the peak power of the laser is very high giveing it the power to near instantainiously vapourize unsuspecting small furry critters (teemos), and due to its very short duration is temoporal choherance is low therefore producing a wide spectrum beam of laser light.
so suck it victor mine is just more powerful than yours.
because the duration of my laser is shorter than yours it is more effective at burning things and contains light over a wider spectrum
Does that explain it?

Whoa, first, sorry for upsetting you so much but I think you may have missed the point of the joke here xD
But if you want a physics face-off, ok:
First, Viktor isn't saying that something is a laser if it's emitting monochrome light. He's saying that anything that doesn't emit coherent and monochrome light can't be a laser. The single colour of a laser is the consequence of the discrete and exact amount of energy which the photons of the laser are carrying. That in turn depends on the difference in energy between the metastable energy level (from which the electron is coming down) and the first free lower energy level. When the electron comes down, because of the stimulated emission, it emits a photon of a specific wavelength. Metastable levels depend on the type of material used in which the stimulated emission is happening. Therefore, a white laser can't exist. Metastable levels are rare and for white laser to exist, all of the electron orbits should be metastable... and that is impossible. Yes, there are lasers with more than one colour, but not with a whole spectrum (i.e. white light). As for the short duration yes, the shorter the pulse the more powerful it is, but only if it's a laser pulse. And one more thing: Lux produces her „laser“ using *magic*. No science behind that, so you can't explain it with science. And AP items affect the power of champions' abilities.
So yes, Lux's ultimate is still a rainbow.
And his name is spelled with 'K'.

Lasers create coherent light because of their mirrors.

No.
Mirrors are used to select preferred photons inside the apparatus, increasing the stimulated emission.

Yes, but when science says something is impossible - like the braking of the law of conservation of momentum, or a white laser - it is just impossible.

*cracks knuckles*
A laser does not technically have to have coherent or monochrome light to be defined as a laser. As, a laser by definition is something that produces light through stimulated emission of radiation. Lux's laser is a pulse, it is coherent as it is a beam, not a cone. AND she uses magic to stimulate the emission of em radiation in the form of face melting awesomeness.
I pass to you good Sir...

Ikleyvey In reply to Chubby-Weasels [2014-04-25 16:41:00 +0000 UTC]
Um, do you even know what you just wrote? Look now:
Laser is composed of photons which were released via stimulated emission of radiation. I explained the process earlier – when a photon of a certain wavelength passes near an electron which is on the metastable level, it can stimulate the electron to come down to a lower energy level which is free, releasing another photon (that's radiation) of the same wavelength, same direction and same phase. That is stimulated emission. You said that lasers don't have to have coherent and monochrome light – that's completely wrong because all light produced via stimulated emission has to be coherent and monochrome. Do you even understand what stimulated emission is? Next: “Lux’s ‘laser’ is coherent because it’s a beam and not a cone” – from this it’s obvious that you don’t know what coherent means. Photons of coherent light have the same phase and wavelength (or frequency, whichever you prefer more), not just direction. That’s why they are the same colour.
No offence but, you should check your own knowledge before attacking someone else’s.
She uses magic to stimulate radiation? In what? For a stimulated emission to happen, you have to have a material aswell (a ruby crystal, for example). If you don’t understand, you should look up the real process behind lasers.
Your iPhone hates him, not you? I… don’t understand…
And one more thing: you could have checked my gender before attacking my work xD

If, you still want my explanation on why her ult is a laser after watching that video then I shall post it.
And when I said my iPhone hates him, what I meant was, I posted that comment from my phone and it auto corrected his name.
Also O_o I really didn't feel as though I was attacking your work...sorry if it seemed that way. Also, I normally don't check everyone's freaking profile. I got your pic through the League of Legends page on DA.

Are you serious? Ugh... Whether your intentions were or weren't bad I can't say since you started swearing and saying that what I wrote in my comic was wrong. You failed in not insulting me. I'm goind to defend myself if someone starts attacking my work or my knowledge.
You show me a video from the game pointing it out as proof? After my extensive reply on the physical process behind lasers? What? Sorry, but your argument is invalid. Go search for the process behind lasers on wikipedia already since you're clearly not paying your attention to my explanations.
I was recently studying lasers and that's what actually inspired me to draw this.
Look up the stimulated emission. There's no point in prolonging this argument since you clearly don't know what lasers actually are. I'll hand it to you: see that narrow red line before she fires her ultimate? That could be a laser. But the multi-coloured beam? No. That can only be a beam of high intensity white light. Not a laser.
And who doesn't check someone's gender before writing to that person 'ser'? Again?
Sorry, I wasn't trying to insult you, I was just defending myself.
