Description Here is another one of the sculptures I have finished recently.
This is Bill B. - the bilby mascot of the store I work for, Nature's Wonderland [link]
Also note that the beautiful artwork you see on the page was drawn by my sister, ~CobraVenom !

You can see the detail views of him here [link]

I created a golden version of the bilby for the store's current promotion, where anybody who makes a purchase has the chance to randomly receive one of ten Golden Tickets, and those winners will receive something from our our super prize box.
This golden bilby was going to be included as a prize, but my mother liked him so much that we are going to keep him
However, I am working on some more little sculptures to be given away.

This is the first time I have used gold clay on it's own, and it was a bit difficult to work with, but I eventually figured it out. I also tried carving the eyes straight into the clay rather than putting actual eyeballs in.

What is a Bilby? At first glance many people guess the Bilby to be a rabbit, and then others believe it is some sort of mouse, but neither is true! The Bilby is actually a marsupial that is most closely related to the bandicoot. The meaning of the world in an Aboriginal language is "long nosed rat" indicating that more than one person along the way has confused this animal with others, as it really is quite peculiar looking!
The Greater Bilby lives in arid areas of Central Australia and is an important part of traditional indigenous culture in the deserts of Central Australia.
Sadly, through habitat loss and competition with introduced animals, the number of these small mammals has dramatically reduced over the last 100 years.

You can read more about the bilby here [link]

Bill is 9 cm (3.5") tall and sculpted by hand without the use of moulds from gold polymer clay over a tinfoil armature.

I hope you enjoy him. Keep a look out for more sculptures soon!

He is just spectacular and so lifelike. I love the eyes and how his paws are positioned and his ears! I also love how this is such a specific animal to where you live. I never knew these exixted,so I learned something new as well!

Eek, this is such an old comment Sorry for such a late reply.

Anyway, thank you so much! Your comment is so nice I really appreciate the compliments.
Yes, the bilby is such a unknown animal - even most Australians who buy from the store don't know what he is >.> They are so cute though, and it's such a pity they are so rare in the wild now. Nature's Wonderland is going to be starting a line of bilby-themed merchandise, and when I am a little more skilled with polymer clay I'm going to sell these little guys, so we can donate to a bilby foundation ^_^ And hopefully make more people aware of them!
