Description
For use with Classic-era Gym Blanks (think the Gym Leader icons for the old Gym Heroes and Gym Challenge sets)...the gym leaders of Pokémon Gold and Silver (and HeartGold and SoulSilver): Falkner, Bugsy, Whitney, Morty, Chuck, Jasmine, Pryce, and Clair!I figured, since I rendered "3D" badges for my gym promos, why not make them into similar icons that were used in the original sets? They looked much cooler than the bland VS icons (and the more recent SP). The backgrounds are the same I used for the Trainer promos (I chose what seemed most fitting for their type specialty).
Feel free to use -- I'd love to see them get some use!

Glad you like them, thank you for your kind words! Unfortunately, these were made to work with the existing Kanto gym leaders from the TCG gym sets, so I won’t be making my own.

I believe sites like Pokémon Aaah! (fakecard.com) should still have them. Otherwise, you may need to find some HQ scans and render them out yourself. Good luck!

I was wondering, how did you render those badges? It would be really interesting to learn how to do so

I started by building the general shape of the badges in Photoshop. Afterwards I’d edit the shape via skew/distort/etc in order to angle them, and add a drop shadow with a hard edge to give it a 3D effect. Then I’d manually go through and add more shadows (and highlights) to really sell the look. I kept scans of the Gym Heroes/Challenege cards for reference while doing so.
Admittedly, rendering the badges in Illustrator would’ve been a better option (vectors would’ve edited better), but at the sizes I was using, Photoshop was a fine alternative. I’m sue there were some other steps involved, but given I haven’t worked on these in some 6-odd years, I can only go by memory. Good luck!

I'll give it a shot... I was thinking to redo the medals of the Kanto leaders to do alt art of the og trainers. But I'm still learning the ropes in regards to photoshop

purple-blue colors for the background please (so that looks like that the dragon head could be a nidoking head)

These are amazing! Seriously.
And I completely agree, besides being all basic Pokemon (lame) the Vs cards were just bland, lifeless, and lacked a lot of creativity in general. And the Gyms sets are my all time favorite too. It was truly a sad day when Media Factory lost the license to it's creation, for sure.
Anyways, love these. You've done a great credit to both the badges themselves and the golden age of the TCG.
Not to mention providing an absolutely fantastic resource for anybody looking to make their own GS Gym sets, that they'd have to be stupid to not want to take advantage of.

I have to agree with you regarding the Gym sets. VS was just terrible (and unfortunately appears to have been the blueprint behind more recent ideas such as Pokémon-SP), so I wanted to bring back the wow factor present in the original Gym sets. Making the badges was a lot of fun, too...so much so that I'm contemplating making the Hoenn leaders and beyond.

And you should definitely consider hitting all the gym leaders. There are some really cool Badge designs sprinkled throughout.
It's funny though, I haven't made my own Pokemon cards since I was like 13, and I would draw them all from scratch on paper. Forget Photoshop, I didn't have a computer. Man, wish I knew what happened to those... I would love to see how over powered they were. I think you might've have awoken that part of me. Perhaps I could make up some of my own Neo era Gym cards? Finally give Erika that Wigglytuff.
