It's so beautiful. I love any of the traditional knotwork let alown traditional stylized animals. The pigments are rich yet they acuratly portray what the medevil artists were capable of. The faded print behind it sugests the theme is illumination with out stretching the artwork by placing it near, say, crisp print you did yourself. It's all about the art which is why it's nice to see subtle text. Verry pleasing to the eye.

For some reason, this one pops up in my new art thingy at random times... but every time it makes me think of the Legend of St. Christopher. This wouldn't happen to be one you have prints of, would it?

The design is just wonderful! And the texture to the paper itself... did you add all of that? It's gorgeous, and accompanies it all so well.

The triskelions are very interesting and the weave is tight and well done. The pose of the shapeshifter is subtle and expressive, as if s/he's baying to the moon. Very very nice work.

Okay. I found and copied this picture to my hard-drive a few months ago, to be honest. I think I found it on a Google search, but I can't be sure. Anyhow...how did you put this together? By that, I mean was this done by hand, or on the computer? Was it drawn and inked and then colored with a program? And the background -- from the BoK, or was it an effect you managed to reproduce by hand? Sorry if I'm being a bit weird, but I'm genuinely impressed with the way this thing feels. Currently trying to reproduce the effect, oi.

Thank you for showing so much interest in it
Well, firstly I did the entire design by hand. I started with the basic lay-out on how I wanted the general shape to be (big circle above as main attention point, two circles at the sides and a few key pattern blocks to 'tie the whole thing together' at the bottom).
I then did the main figure of the shapeshifter. First made a few sketches on the design, picked on I really liked and worked it out to a finished piece by itself. Then put it aside.
Picked a new piece of paper and did the two major circles, since I wanted the main circle knotwork to be the border of the two side circles.
After that was done I wanted to fill up to two circles, and my original idea was already to use triskel designs for that. I looked a bit through my notes and sketches from the studies on the illuminated manuscripts fom my art academy.. but didn't find anything that caught my interest enough to work on with it. I then started staring at the ceiling and put it aside.
The next day I found one of my necklaces that had a very nice triskel design on it. I altered it a bit and worked it into the two circle design. With the circle thing now done that was put aside aswell.
Grabbed a new piece of paper, switched on the light on my light table, put the main figure of the shifter on, the circle designs over that and redrew the entire thing.. now in one piece. Added the final keypatterns to the 'put-together' design and started inking it.
Then gave it a good scan. Using Photoshop I colored it. I have two pages of vellum scanned from the art academy, and they are 'blown up' severely. I use these images for most of my backgrounds. I layed the thing together, made the ink line work in the design a tiny bit transparent and gently unshapened the thing so it 'flows' into the background to give it a bit more ancient look.
I hope this helps you a bit If you need to know anything else just drop me a note and I'll be willing to help out in what way I can.
