The group of princesses in Berlin has long tempted me to create a picture. In my eyes it is one of the most beautiful monuments ever. In 1795 Johann Gottfried Schadow began work and the finished portrait was acclaimed by his contemporaries.

Only the commissioner - the King of Prussia - did not think the statue was successful and had it set up a little apart in the Berlin Palace for years with its back to the wall, so that it never really came into its own.

It shows the two Mecklenburg princesses Louise and Fredericke of Mecklenburg-Strelitz. Both married Prussian princes in a double wedding within a few days.

Louise became Queen of Prussia and was very popular with the people. It is said that she even impressed Napoleon Bonarpate. But she died very young.
