i read the series before it got famous, and i think one of the major things that made it suck was the fame

I think for most people it was the fact that the writing was so bad, and yet no one said anything about it being that bad. They were praising it like it was the best thing since sliced bread. So yeah, bad writing + insane popularity = many antis.
They are very fangirlish, though I don't think Meyer would know what a vampire was if it bit her on the neck.
