when i first saw this, i felt it was a great shot, however, when i opened the deviation and saw it full view, it wasn't as good as i expected it to be, so i got to thinking, what made me feel it was good, and what made me feel it was bad.
i'll start with the bad, so i can end this critique on a happier note e.deviantart.com/emoticons/s/sā¦ " width="15" height="15" alt="" title=" (Smile)" />
at first i couldn't quite put my finger on it, all i could come up with is the detail, but normally i just love detail.
however, after some more thinking i feel i know, the detail is so strong, it is hiding the shape, the micro is hiding the macro, it flattens the face of the cat.
now for the good part:
when i first saw this, there were 2 prime things that attracted me. the first was the composition, the placement of the head, with the blurred background simply made for a compelling scene, one that works (this is also where the detail has the biggest impact, the face is less pronounced).
secondly, there is the great contrast between the gray of the fur and yellow of the eyes, it really brings them out.
