Description Second Part: [link]

As promised part 2 of my tutorial

*Its a huuuggggeee file, so please allow time for it to load >_<*

This is the gradient shading part, I think this is what most people asked for but it continues on from the lineart tut.

Once again please excuse the typos, I was never very good at English. Whoops...

Any questions feel free to ask, I don't bite

I will definitely be checking this out, I just got my first ever tablet for Christmas and am in dire need of help.
If I do have any questions when I go to practice however will be sure to ask. I have CS6 ^^

Congratulations on the new tablet! I am sure you are going to be glued to it now Yes just give me a shout if you get stuck, if you have had previous version of photoshop you will find CS6 easy enough to use.

I've never done really any thing on photoshop prior. xD So my skills are very very basic at the moment but I'm willing to learn I gotta get some sleep but first thing in the morning I'm gonna start practising so if I have any questions I'll be sure to ask. Thank you so so much for the time and patience it took to make this tutorial.
That horse looks super cool!!

I've been drooling over this for days now . I'm pretty good at shading in traditional but my digital shading skills fail. I tried to follow it, and it's explained exceptionally well if I might add, but I have a question or two...
I use PSE and I was doing ok until the step where you add the markings and use the pen tool. I've tried several things but I'm not sure if PSE has the tool I need or if I can't find it correctly. I tried using the lasso tool as a supplement for it makes it look so unclean and shaky.
Did I do a bad job explaining, or could you help by chance?

Hi there, Just wondering what photoshop you use. You've probably wrote this somewhere up there five times but I cant be bothered to read the whole tutorial till I know what one.lol. It would be great if you could tell me! Thanks.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Ilyana88 In reply to everything-works [2009-03-10 23:21:47 +0000 UTC]

I used the gradient tool, I made sure it was set to just one colour so it blended with the background. You can use the lasso tool to select the area you want to colour ^_^ I hope that helps!

sunwingss [2009-01-21 04:13:24 +0000 UTC]

oht his is wonderful!!!!! i really love this!! I just have a question though. on the second step I tried doing that and what happened was that I coloured over the line art so I couldnt see it any more. Like I was trying to colour it green and when I put the green down it went over the linert so I couldnt see it anymore. I followed all of your steps and I cant really figure it out because im new t phtotshop and hope you understand my question.

Thanks for everything though!!!!!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Ilyana88 In reply to sunwingss [2009-03-10 23:34:49 +0000 UTC]

First of all I am so sorry for the late reply, I have been trying to work my way through a mountain of messages.

Are you using layers? If you arn't then you will be painting directly on top of the lineart but if you do use layers then I guess the layer you are painting on is placed above your outline layer. If you go to your layers box which shows the individual layers you should move your outline layer to the very top, so when you paint on the layers below the outline will still show through.

I hope this is clear enough and it solves your problem, if not let me know and I will try and help you sort this ^_^

sunwingss In reply to Ilyana88 [2009-03-15 02:17:29 +0000 UTC]

lol Its okay! No problem! I kind of figure that so I understand ^-^

This is very clear thank you so much!!! I get it better now and just one more question, Would you look the outline layer then colour over it?

Thank you so much!! Your very kind

how do you know where to shade?? I know your light source
is coming from the right...but is tht where the shading would
be?? Sorry...i'm at a very LOW level of shadingg.

Good 1st pt. of tut!!

Ilyana88 In reply to XnidaimeXyondaimeX [2008-07-12 22:03:17 +0000 UTC]

Ok, I couldn't quite put this into words very well so I did a little picture for you to help ^_^

Basically you have to imagine the focus point of the picture as 3D (in the picture its the horse)
The further away from the light source the darker it will be (Duuuhhhh )
The parts of the horse which stick out more will be lighter and the more hidden parts of the horse (like the belly) Will be darker.

The picture just shows where I would put the basic shadows/highlights if I had a light source coming from the left. I dug out the same picture I used in the tut ^_^

I hope this helps, if you still don't get it just let me know!

What does it mean if after I shade in an area that was drawn with the pen tool, then I unselect it and try to make more shading it erases the other one? And doesn't inverse.
