It's not a bad photo, but yeah, know what you mean, a photo will never get the atmosphere, the scent of the trees on the wind, the sheer scale of everything and the enormity of the world laid out in front of you.
Needs some work to really bring it out though man, you need to do Shadow/Highlights to try and balance the image a bit more, the top is too bright while the bottom's too dark. Really you needed an ND Grad Filter, but bit late now. You might be better off just using two seperate Levels layers actually, just masking them to each part of the image, just to get the full range in each part. Could do with some better saturation too, don't wanna take it too far and degrade the quality, but just to bring out the pattern in the fields. Once you've got the colours brought out as well, just put a final curves layer on top and take out a tiny bit of blue and add a tiny hint of red - just a couple of values above in the middle, to curve it - it just gives it a nice, summery glow.
Nice foreground though, got a good curve in the treeline, tho it seems slightly too big, might be worth cropping it up at the bottom a bit, just make it even more of a landscape ratio. As it stands, there's a fair bit of wasted space along the bottom, especially as the real focus is the landscape and not the trees.
