Description Another image of the 1958 Pontiac Strato Chief that I shot last week. I'd tell you that I'm going to post a full colour edit of this car but the truth is that I don't think that I will.

There's something about this car that makes me FEEL like I need to share the way I see it. In my mind's eye it's like a faded memory of good times, road trips and heart-pounding nights behind the wheel with a first love on the way to the drive-in movies. Sepia tones, charcoal pencil sketches and black and white renditions of the things that I shoot seem to best convey the look that I see when I imagine my subjects.

Since this is the case and I obviously have a problem with reality and all the saturation of colour that exists there, I'm sorry to say that the Strato Chief will just have to be shared with all of you the way that I see her. No matter for me though as I still see how beautiful the turn of her curves are and I can see the fire of youth and the yearning for adventure hiding within....

This image is a real hodge-podge of effort. The photo was shot with my Canon EOS Digital Rebel XS. The first conversion to HDR as a .tif file was made with Photomatix 4.0 and then I ran the resulting file through Luminance on my Linux box and, hold on to your hats, folks - then I did the final touching up on my Picnik account.

How's that for goofy? My favourite computer and the one that I usually would do all of my editing on with Luminance and GIMP in an Ubuntu environment is dead like doornails so I'm bouncing from desktop to desktop and looking for crazy answers to what are likely very silly questions. In the end though it all worked out and I'm happy so that's what counts, right?

Hahahaha Picnik. x3

It looks amazing just the way it is! Like she's in her element~ I'm expecting the wind to blow and a couple of giggling teenagers to burst onto the scene.

Oh, I really like this one even better than the last. It's got a more old-timey feel to it, and the angle getting the clouds in with it and everything make it look amazing.

I think that it's great that you like this image. I feel quite similarly about the final finish of it, too. There was just something about this car hat made me want to show it off this way. It's not young and beautiful any more but there's still so much what made it special that the viewer can see even so.

I love the dramatic value that a good piling on of clouds can add to a photo and when you process them as HDRs that only makes the whole thing that much more powerful.

Thanks so much for the comment!

Exactly! Even people who aren't old car geeks like some of us could enjoy the picture in its entirety with the final look of it, just because it's an excellent photo. Then there's those of us who just adore old cars, which makes it all that much more pleasing.

Yes, clouds can make almost any photo look powerful. <3

You're ever so welcome.

About the black and white thing, there's a reason they start photo classes off with B&W film...

This is very nice! B&W is an appropriate way to show it. Color is great but sometimes B&W does it the right amount of justice.

I'm so glad that you feel that way....because I just can't bring myself to do any edits of this car in full colour!

Thanks a bunch for the positive comment.

Absolutely stunning - My personal opinion is that you should not add colour to this - its perfect as it is. The greyscale colour that tis photo has gives it a great mood/atmosphere - congrats on a stunning piece !!

The first image I posted of this car pretty much immediately got a comment about how it would be nice if it was in colour. I thought about it a lot....and I have decided that I disagree. It isn't in keeping with the spirit and story that I feel in me about this car when I look at it.

Thank you so very much for the kind comments and for appreciating this image!
