Thank you.  This one is done using a handheld siphon feed sandblasting gun.  It's a cut vinyl mask peeled in stages and a 220grit aluminum oxide used to carve and shade.

Awesome work! Is this done freehand or with the computer?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ImaginedGlass In reply to Cholmers [2012-01-06 05:42:17 +0000 UTC]

Thank you. This particular one was designed and then vectorized to run it on the vinyl cutter to create the mask. Then I laid the masking for it on both sides of the glass and peeled up what I need blasted in stages according to deepest first and working down to shading. The sandblasting is done with a handheld blasting gun and adjusted the pressure accordingly for the blasting, etc.

I do handcut vinyl, too. This finer detailing and the bigger nozzle on the siphon feed blasted I make work together. I want a small pressure pot with a pencil tip nozzle someday to have more control for the detailing. For now I make it work.

So, basically I utilize both areas of hand and computer.

that's sugar!?

I thought it was glass at first

ImaginedGlass In reply to yinyangswings [2012-01-06 05:35:25 +0000 UTC]

hehe, well, I'm afraid to let you test if it's really sugar or not since I don't want to see the dentist bill after.

It's definately glass, and it won't dissolve in liquid unless it's acid, but I generally don't do acid etching ...

I have a recipe somewhere for making sugar glass. That would be a real interesting thing to do, and then blast it. Not sure how I would hold the resist on, but I could probably create a flat template and do it that way. With an easy etch it wil look nice without much time and then I can put together a nice stunt scene of someone getting tossed through it.

Does this skull have a third eye AND a mustache? my my, you went all out
Is it symbolic of the omnipresence of death? A
re the flower etchings in the eye sockets symbolic of the flowers we place on the graves of the deceased?
And the nose appearing as an upside down heart, is that symbolic of how love transends life and death?
Or is it rather a symbol of how love kills slowly(as the heart is upside down)?
Regardless it's a lovely design

I like how the pattern traces inward to the skull, forcing one to look at it. Is this supposed to represent death's inevitability?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ImaginedGlass In reply to TMystery [2012-01-06 01:33:22 +0000 UTC]

Art is always subjective to it's interpretations...so I won't say you have to be wrong...If the pattern has asked you to look inward, then I think it is working well to do the other things it's designed to achieve ...Thank you...

I think what brings the eyes towards the skull are the small pointed needle-like patterns that are on the edges

Btw, someone bought the one listed on my market site, but the design is still available and I will be adding it back up, and list it in a quantity as a made to order item if anyone is interested in the design that way (or any other designs)...psst that was the salesman side I had to show, but I'm still best in the comfort role of just being an artist, lol.

Thank you everyone for coming by and adding or showing such kindness in my art glass. I especially appreciate that stina-wo [link] had suggested me for the Daily Deviation, and then on top of that being featured by FrockTarts [link] to add to this nice surprise.

I'd like to get to everyone and say thank you for adds throughout my gallery and +watches, but with such a volume of response I think I'll have to create a journal to post and then work my way eventually to everyone's pages to see their artisitc talents, as well. While I'm doing that I may have to take the time and focus some entries in that journal for some other endeavors, too. Thank you again, all.
