Description Finished commission for Taldarion Shatterbound of Earthen Ring - US

Pose from : [link]

Edit: I DID NOT USE THE SMUDGE TOOL ON ANYTHING BUT THE MASK. The ONLY brush I use is some brush I picked up from an ImagineFX mag over a year ago... Please go review my livestream videos at [link] and see for yourself.

I really like how you build up the picture. It's a good composition and especially the earth-like-looking disc in the background makes the picture look whole. The proportions of both figures are well done and I like how the person in the background lays his hand around the elf, as if he'd like to protect him.

The clothings of the elf are pretty cool because they're like in the game. Good work! It looks really great. Also his weapons are quite near to the style in the game. In whole you did a great job with the lines, I have to admit. e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s… " width="15" height="15" alt="" title=" (Smile)" />

The only thing I dislike a bit and somehow find it pretty sad is that the skin looks so... halfhearted colored.
In a smaller view of the picture I didn't notice the first time, but when I did look at it in the whole I saw that you missed to use the smudge-tool on the skin. So you can see every stroke of your brush there. It's not that bad but it would look much better if you'd soften the skin and smudge it at the edges of the highlights and shadows.
For the cloths this style of coloration you did is pretty cool and makes it look realistic and deep. e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s… " width="15" height="15" alt="" title=" (Smile)" />

The second thing I find a bit sad is that you spare highlights at the background-figure. It would come out better if you'd give him a few highlights at his fur and skin. Then you'd also lift him up a little bit more from the background which is nearly the same tone of brightness like the figure itself. (Just turn it into grayscales and you'll see what I mean.)

Nevertheless one of the highlights of this picture for me is the blood at the figures mask. It's really cool and I love it! Also the weapons and what I did already say, the cloths are great.

Overall the picture is pretty cool and well done even if there are a few hints for you to improve in my opinion. ^^
I hope I could have helped you a little bit. e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s… " width="15" height="15" alt="" title=" (Smile)" />

Neat mask imo, the bloodied smears and lack of eye slots look like it should imply something but I can't think of what.

The designs are interesting i think it's very orginal. The mask above with the horns: where do they come from?

The Unbound Seers in Crystalsong Forest have those horns (in WoW).

I know you're probably really effing sick of hearing me say this, but...

Light source, light source, light source.
Cast shadows, cast shadows, cast shadows.
Reflected light/color, reflected light/color, reflected light/color.
Value structure, value structure, value structure.

If you grayscale this the whole thing is probably between a 6-9 value with the only bright spots being the gems on the armor, which makes the image lose its focal point.

Your drawing skills and detail for armor are SOLID. If you'd just push yourself on the lighting, your work would go through the roof.

Yay it's coloured.

As for critique I'd like to see a bit of his legs because even though this isn't a full body drawing, the fact it his armor kilt (skirt? hehe) stops right before his legs in the drawing makes the figure seem stunted, since there is a bit of dead space there for legs to be.

Other than that I think a more defined light source would help this piece, because I'm not sure where it's coming from since there are some light sources from below and some from the left.

And it's quite obvious the smudge tool is used for blending. If you like that technique, that's great. But...maybe either add more colours so it's not quite so obvious when blending, since it takes away from the figure, or use various textured brushes when painting.

Overall I like the piece, since I think your WoW fantasy pieces are fun and colourful, and I'm sure whoever commissioned you will enjoy it as well.

..I didn't use the smudge tool at all except for the blood on the mask. The rest was all color blending with a normal brush. *rubs the back of her head* I don't see a problem with using the smudge tool for the mask though... he's supposed to have ran his hands through it...

As far as the legs are concerned, the kilt doesn't stop right at his legs.. it keeps going past what you see.. I just didn't draw that far..

Oh, well I thought the smudge tool was also used on the skin as well. My mistake hehe.

I didn't really get that impression that the blood was smeared by a hand, and that's what you were going for, correct? Maybe add some fingertips and trail those down, that might help it read better.

Yeah, I assumed it would continue further, since I remembered a few of the WoW costumes, but there's just something about that dead space there that bothers me. Ah well, it's just my few ideas hehe.

I hope I wasn't too harsh on the critique.
