I had stumbled upon it some time ago. What works best for our front page are images with a horizontal format, like this. For some reason vertical and square images tend to look a little distorted.
If you've got another suggestion for submission, what would you recommend?

There's a black Russian gas mask under that shroud. I know the type, have a few of them as props. Combines with a M40 stahlhelm far too well.

probably one f the most original gas masks around.
I dont like the cliche, for so many images get consumed by it, and it becomes more about the cliche then the message. But in this case. there is more mystery and questions forming around the cloth that wraps the gass mask and the doubtful uniform....
i like it.

gas mask pictures can be extremely clishé nowadays, i agree. it's a pity though, because a gasmask contains so much symbolism... if it's used in the right way, that is.

Everything created has already been made, movies, books, songs, art in genral. Anything is a risk of being cliché. For me cliché is when you take an already popular idea and try to feed off the the past success of it with out adding your own light to it. I don't think that is the case with this photo at all, you added your own element taking the old and making it new.

You're right, gasmasks are so cliché. I absolutely adore them.
I really like all of your Invisible Empire work; they're always so powerful and dark without dripping with blood and gore (my boyfriend thinks they're scary...). Would love to know more about the concept and thoughts behind it.
