I personally prefer the other one because it's so much simpler than this, and the loose "farted out" style of it makes it a lot grittier and seems to fit better with the character. On this one it honestly looks like you're trying too hard, which detracts from the value of the art.
Idk both pieces are good in my opinion, and this one is technically better in terms of being fancy and looking nice, but the other one just has a lot more life to it than this one.

oh I got a better word for overly detailed. It's more like busy or too much going on. I think that's what you're trying to say. That makes sense too. Thanks for the comment.

Ya too much going on. In the other picture it's a lot easier to figure out the mood and tone and emotion behind the character, but in this picture it's all in the detail and nothing in the emotion.
Ah another problem that I just realized is that the other one has a lot more contrast between the subject (the headshot) and the background in terms of how saturated the colors are themselves. If you used the exact same color pallet for both pictures I get the feeling that this picture would be a lot more appealing to the subconscious ^^

I changed a few things. I probably won't make anymore dramatic changes to this.

This was the most helpful comment I've had all day.
That totally makes sense with how you put it. Thanks a lot. Hmm trying too hard? Overly detailed?
