Description My first real play with translucent clay, all the flowers and leaves in this are partly see-through in all lights.

My flower making is a cake decorating technique, So I decided to create a focal pendant in the same way as cake decorators make flower sprays for wedding cakes(which I can do)... So now I can make bridal jewellery to match your wedding cakes.. cool no?

Wooo-wee... look at that rose! You really have perfected your craft. REally nice... I love the pattern within the leaf pattern. Very cool-

Thank you!
You should see this rose in person, I can't even exlain all the colour changes in it, just from adding a little translucent clay to the mix! It's awesome stuff if you only use small amounts, otherwise it sort of heat cracks and looks really bad.

Bet this idea'll make you hella rich! Well maybe not rich but it should be very nice money on the side!

How do you make the flower petals so thin without them threatening to break? I'd be scared to make petals that thin. Aiey.

I'm hoping so! I'm not aganist extra money!

I use Du-Kit polymer, it's a New Zealand brand of clay made for making buttons, so it can even handle going through the washing machine! How cool is that! I've never tried making buttons tho(really should try that one day), it's really hard wearing and seems to work fine for my flowers.

They could break if they're dropped(have had it happen and they were fine) but the same could happen to glass beads and the likes, so as long as your careful then they should be all good.
I do try and have all my flowers taking no weight or pull, so that'd cut down on breaking.

Neat stuff. I hear Kato Polyclay is really strong but yet I have some and it's rather brittle in my experience.... and VERY, VERY hard to work with/knead. How tough is Du-Kit? I prefer soft clay, but all soft clay except Super Sculpey bakes like flimsy rubber. Bah.

immortaldesigns In reply to jemnisimi [2008-10-23 06:35:57 +0000 UTC]

Du-Kit is pretty hard when it's cold but softens up as you knead it, still it's pretty firm... I work so thin, soft clays just mush apart, so it's perfect for me.

I've never worked in any Scupey stuff, i've used fimo soft once and it was waaay to soft for me.

I love it soft, hahah. I've never used Fimo Soft though. I imagine I wouldn't like it --- Normally soft in polyclay means it has more elasticity, and I hate that. Sculpey isn't really firm (it is before you knead it for sure), but it's certainly not mushy. It's positively perfect for me. Although I admit sometimes, Rarely, you get a batch that is just a squishie mess that won't hold detail... Sculpey will replace it if that happens. They're a very honest, generous and good company, so was very easy for me to forgive a couple of duds I bought. But then, it's happened like twice in seven years.

One day grab a half off coupon for Hobby Lobby or Michaels if you have those over there, and get a pack - retail without a coupon it's only $11 per pack, $8 depending on where you go sometimes, so you get a nice large chunk of glee for like $5. Take some dressmaker's pins to it and you're set.

Worst thing that happens, ya hate it and you're out a few bucks.

Thank you! It's really not that delicate, although I do dislike working with all those small beads!

Aww Thanks, i'm glad you like it! The rose was meant for a bead embroidery piece but I just can't get my beading to look nice and even so I gave up. I like how this turned out tho, so i'm happy.

I love it! The blue-purple flower is beautiful, and the little daisies are so cute. The idea to match a necklace and a wedding cake is pretty neat, too!

Thank you!!
I never have bigger(spacer) beads on hand and i'd just brought a truck load of tiny(15's) seed beads, so I thought "what the hell?". It might not be as flashy but I rather like it!
