Second painting in a series of five - part of a commission. Portraying Dr. Remy 'Thirteen' Hadley (Olivia Wilde) from House . The general idea was to portray the pivotal moments in the character's arc. This one is from S05E05 - "Lucky Thirteen" .

The fifth episode of season five sees the duality of 'Thirteen' on full display. With a confirmed diagnosis for Huntington's the character enters a "downwards spiral of destruction". Her current model with keeping everything secret internally and externally can't continue to work, it falls apart - the initial cracks caused by House and his addiction to solve every puzzle, but that doesn't mean she refrains from trying to keep it functional. A kind of desperate logic, like trying to keep things together while being pulled apart internally:
Reality<--Character-->Denial
The duality is showcased in a variety of ways:
The divide between life and death
Controlling the outcome forcefully / giving in with the same result: death
A numb state / a state of awareness
Being consciously aware of your destructive actions but continuing regardless
"Why not men? You're bisexual. If you were just being self-destructive, you'd be having random sex with men. Better chance of getting assaulted, catching a disease. If this was just about getting laid, it'd be a lot easier to pick up men. Or ugly girls. This woman's hot. Which means you like the challenge, the conquest. It's the control that gets you off. And controlling women is as close as you can get to controlling what's gonna happen to you.""You're in a downward spiral of destruction. You're gonna keep spiraling. Keep screwing around. Keep slashing away at every person who tries to help until no one tries to help anymore. Till you hit bottom. Till you're dead. Until then I can use you."
