My take of the world presented in the Red Alert video game series.

Point of divergence, Hitler perished in the First World War and Mussolini's March on Rome is crushed, butterflying away the rise of European fascism.

1929: The Great Depression takes place, plunging the world economy in an economic depression.

1931-1937: Japan falls under the control of radical militarists, whom seize control of Manchuria in 1931 and invade the remainder of China in 1937.

1941: After the Great Purge and the Five Year Plans were finally concluded, Stalin turned his attention to exporting the revolution and announced the end of 'Socialism in One State'. Stalin demands entry into the Baltic States and has his way due to no Western response. Stalin then attacks Finland in 1941, sparking fears in the Western Powers of future Soviet aggression.

1942-1943: The Soviet Union and Japan sign a series of non-aggression agreements, de facto bringing an alliance between the Soviet Union and Japan despite their quarrels with one another. China is also finished off after the Soviets and Japanese agree to partition China into spheres of influence.

1945: Stalin announces an ultimatum to the Poles, relinquish control of ethnic Byleorussian and Ukrainian lands to the Soviet Union. The Poles naturally refuse, knowing what happened to the Baltic nations and Finland. The Red Army then launches their invasion of Poland, sparking war between the revived Western powers.

1945-1946: The Red Army blitzed trough Poland and much of the Balkans, shocking the allied powers. Warsaw fell within weeks of the war and the Red Army continued to pour into Germany. The beleaguered German nation, then under a right wing junta, faced the full brunt of the Red Army. Berlin and Nuremburg fell to the Soviet advance and the junta collapsed as the communists staged an uprising across the nation. In the East, the Japanese attacks colonial possessions in Southeast Asia.

1947: The Red Army had fully conquered the majority of Germany, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Greece, and most of Yugoslavia. The Red Army also invaded the Middle East, attacking Iran and Turkey. The Japanese have also fully consolidated their control over Southeast Asia.

1948: The allies and the Japanese sign a separate peace due to the Japanese fulfilling their war aims. The Japanese promptly pull themselves out of the war, sparking an end of the Soviet-Japanese alliance. The Red Army also prepares for final offensives to be launched in Italy and France. Starting in mid-1948, the Red Army crosses the Rhine and the Po' Rivers. The communist Spaniards also announce war on the side of the USSR.

1949: The Soviets develop a nuclear device and use it against Paris, sparking chaos and ultimately the fall of France and Italy to the Red Army. The British also announce the development of their very own nuclear device and deploy it against the Red Army. The war has settled into a stalemate with both sides unable to win over the other. A wear armistice was signed, ending the Second World War.

1950: The re-organization of Europe takes place. The collaborationist regimes in Germany, France, and Italy merge into the Union of European Socialist Republics, an ally of the Soviet Union. The Soviet Union also annex Eastern Europe, the Balkans, Istanbul, the Armenian Highlands, Iran, and Afghanistan.

1952: After the end of the presidencies of Franklin D. Roosevelt and Henry A. Wallace, Thomas Dewey wins and announces the entry of America into world affairs, supporting the remaining allied nations in Africa and the British Empire. The Global Defense Organization (aka. the allied nations) was founded in 1952 as a military alliance of the USA, the British Commonwealth, and the French Union (France-in-exile).

Alliances in 1969:

Global Defense Organization: A military alliance consisting of the three main members of the USA, the British Commonwealth, and the French Union. Currently fighting the Cold War with the World Socialist Alliance while also re-approaching the Co-Prosperity Sphere (Japanese alliance) to help contain Soviet expansionism in a future potential war.

World Socialist Alliance: A Soviet-led military alliance including their (very few) allied states. The Red Army is the hegemonic army that 'protects' the Soviet's Union socialist allies with each of it's members having a Soviet base. The World Socialist Alliance is currently tasked with facing a potential invasion from the Global Defense Organization and the Co-Prosperity Sphere while also suppressing internal discontent.

Greater East Asian Co-Prosperity Sphere: A Japanese-led military alliance including the giants of China and India. The most rapidly growing of the military blocs, with the Japanese reforming their system to allow the Chinese and Indians to field large armies to fight the Soviet behemoth. Currently in a tense situation with the World Socialist Alliance over their support of Chinese communist guerillas but mending relations with the Global Defense Organization.
