Hoofsoliders of the Solari guild, theses crusaders are used to garrison guild holds, guard their vaults, and any guild contracts. Many guild mages come from Lineguard divisions. Though still retaining the discipline from their legionnaire training they still exhibit the hotblooded tenancies of the rest of the guild. Theses dedicated warriors fight with fiery hooves of burning metal but have been known to wield spears and broadswords. Upon joiningΒ the Battlemages they are taught the dragon's breath spell, a ability to harness magic flame as a dragon would inside of their breath. Generally that would depend on if the individual mage knows the spells. But they may find ways to around such things. If powered by technology they can merely blink through it since it might not have any magical properties as thats the only thing that can combat magic. However there has been no technology and thus shield can be done in two ways through a user or through tempered crystals.

So in the case of Spartan armor or Jackal shields from Halo, their shields would be unable to stop shots from them?

Generally everyone conceives magic as a immaterial thing or something that does not obey the laws of reality hence why its magic. However if they were spraying them with fire for example the output would be the same if they were being hit by a flamethrower. If its a arcane blast the magic would be treated like a plasma bolt with a diferent property. It would block the energy of the plasma but the magic would have a different affect like pushing or a burn.
