Tribal warrior of the Final-Jomon Period (1000–300 BC).

Although evidence suggests that times of dispute and aggression occurred during the Jomon Period (14,000-300 BC), the Jomon people were never involved in any large-scale conflicts or wars. This is largely attributed to the lack of a true political state in Jomon society. As such, conflicts would have been confined to the tribal level.

Warriors of this time would have been lightly armed and unarmored. Typical weapons would have included knives, bows, and spears. Weapons imported from the mainland would have also been used on occasion, including swords made of bronze or iron. Wooden shields may have also been used during this period.

The warrior seen here is depicted with a wooden shield and an imported sword of bronze.
