Description
This is the sort-of final for digital painting class. We all mailed this one in a bit.
The assignment was to draw a cartoon/game character in the style of a well-known painter. I had some other ideas but went with Zero in the style of Yoshitaka Amano because I can't freaking draw Zero.This is 's assignment. His totally owns mine.

Zero in Amano's style was such a cop out. XD All his people look sort of like Zero... the only hard part was the armour. In retrospect, I should have modified the armour design to be some sort of cool Amano-esque thing with drapery all over and whatnot. Buuuuut this was the last assignment of the semester and we had the epic power outage while I was doing it so uh, cop out it is. XD

I gotta say, next to the style and everything, I really like how you did his mechanical ears, and the hair fits really nicely. I was trying for a while to draw Zero without his helmet and achieve the idea akin to this - but you did it really well!
Plus you've done Amano's style beautifully. Especially the colouring and his expression.
Also, after reading through some of the comments above - try Neil Gaiman - he's an American artist/comic/novel writer who's quite good, and nearly all my favourite artists are Japanese, so ._.
I be in the same boat.

Ooh, I'll check that out, I've never heard of that artist! On a related note, if you want reference pictures of Zero without his helmet, try to get a hold of some of the Rockman X comics. I can't remember the artist's name but the art is beautiful. ^^ His hair always is so wispy and pretty... I spend a lot of time trying to emulate that.

Neil Gaiman's most famous work are his comics (well, turned graphic novels) called 'The Sandman'. I haven't read his novels or such yet *looks over shoulder at 20+ novels bought and unread*Oo
Also, I never knew there were Rockman X comics! XD Thanks for telling me!
And, as a side note - Fan art gets so much attention. XD I should do it more often... lol
As much as I like fanart, its a sad truth that any original work we do doesn't get as much attention. Still, its my own fault that I openly seek out fanart anyway

That's really great! The muted colors, the flowing, pulled back hair, and the pale, angular face are definitely Amano-esque and well transfered to the X art style. Fabulous, and I'm faving it.
As a side note, I did my final project on Amano in art class, and got bitched at because "he's foreign." And... well, so are a lot of them. XD

That's definitely really weird... I think none of my favourite artists are American. >_>
I don't really like how Amano does noses... they're all downward facing and pointy. It worked well for Zero, though, half the men he draw look almost exactly like him without any effort on my part. XD;

Yeah, they're reeeally pointy. Pointy enough, in fact, for my teacher to tell me that I'd better stop researching "anime artists". What astounds me, though, is that one of her favorite students (and you could tell XD) did for her final project an actual anime artist. XD
WTF, I'm getting really tangenty and off topic. I'll remind myself to STFU next time. XD
But yes, that did seem to work really well for Zero. It's somehow really fitting.
