Description I've drawn and seen quite a few pictures of Hiyono, and I realized that in most of them she was smiling and cheerful; as she always seems to be in the anime/manga. I decided I wanted to draw a picture of her with a more solemn atmosphere. Thus, the creation of this.

Hmm, I think I have something of a love/hate relationship with this. In some ways I really like it, and in others I really don't. As I don't have an ink pen, I decided to do this in watercolor paint. That there makes me nervous. . .

I kind of like how the storm clouds came out, but then I also feel they could have used more gray and less purple. I'm..... happy with how her hair turned out. The top of it could have been better, but other then that I think it's good.

*no comment on her eyes or sweater, I'll just ramble*

There are only two things that really irk me about this: Her eyebrows are too close together, and the window seal isn't straight. The wall is, well, it's a wall. I'm not sure if I like it >.>

It was good practice with my watercolors

I'll think about posting a lineart once I get a new ink pen.

Your watercoloring is incredible! I thought this was acrylics or maybe oil pastels Her hair and clothes has a sweet soft appeal, overall i feel like this is a scene from a storybook.

Hehe, Hiyono, Hiyono, let down your hair^o^

i think either type of coloring materials are goodXD each has its' own unique effect

hehe, the "let down your hair" is actually a quote from the brothers grimm fairytale, Rapunzel (or was it mother goose?)

Imprisoned-Fire In reply to IrrelevantMaverick [2008-09-06 01:00:09 +0000 UTC]

Maybe I should try something with acrylics. It's been a while, I'm due for a try.

I was thinking Romeo and Juliet for some reason. I knew it was Rapunzel, but I thought Juliet

... I can't remember that next line, after the let down your hair part!

I've never worked with acrylics before but i can't wait to see an artwork of yours with it!

Haha, i don't think there's a specific line, i think IIRC the prince or witch climbs Rapunzel's hair (that's gotta hurt)XD

I once tried painting a gaint picture of the Blue Eyes White Dragon and the Red Eyes Back dragon from Yugioh. I never finished the Red eyes, I didn't know how to do the fire ball I... wonder what happened to it

Yes, yes it would. I have long, not as long as hers but, I know how painful it is to get it pulled.

Someday you'll find it againXD or paint another picture of it! i'm not great at painting, i use too much water

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Imprisoned-Fire In reply to IrrelevantMaverick [2008-09-11 17:08:21 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, it couldn't have gotten far. It probably got put somewhere as I was packing. Maybe it's at the new house?

Paint another one? I don't think I could work up the patience again. That thing was huge.

If you use too much water, then you haven't painted enough. I usually use my acrylic paints for wooden chests and bird houses. I've ruined a number of them (and wasted money ) with too much water.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

IrrelevantMaverick In reply to Imprisoned-Fire [2008-09-13 07:17:19 +0000 UTC]

huge canvases make great things to hang on the wall but i can imagine how hard it is to paint something big

admittedly, the last time i painted was in middle school i've got some water color tubes i haven't used for a try. and it's so kewl you paint wooden chests and bird houses! despite how ruined you think it might be, you can paint over it haha, you must put some beautiful designs on it too (which is complicated for me).

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Imprisoned-Fire In reply to IrrelevantMaverick [2008-09-13 15:50:54 +0000 UTC]

That they do, especially when you painted it But yes, they can be hard to piant

Well that's not cool! You should try again, practie a bit. A little tip with water colors (tube, pencils, whatever); Less water, darker color. More water, lighter color.

Thank you. (though I don't think it's that cool ) Yeah, I could paint over it, but if I wanted to keep some wood not painted, then it kind of ruins it

Hmm, maybe. Thinking about it, a lot of them were quite simple (like vines and stuff). Maybe a sky pattern on the roof of a bird house...

I should paint some more (maybe after I move)

XD Hey hey an unhappy Hiyono ;3
Very nice Watercolor paints are hard to control if you make them too watery so looking at this you have a pretty good handle on making it the right consistancy
The background looks great I love it! 0-o
The wall...Hmm did you want to do anything with the wall? I think it kinda adds to teh somberness of the picture ^.^; But thats just my opinion
Her hair looks great, the highlights are nicely placed and the color is perfect 0-o (how did you get it so close in color?!)
You should do more watercolor stuff! (I personally want to, because I have some..but I just haven't found anything to use them on...) Have you tried chalk pastels? Those are fun, if you ever wanted to try them out

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Imprisoned-Fire In reply to RedShinigami99 [2008-09-03 03:53:03 +0000 UTC]

Yep. It was kind of wierd getting her eyes to look right

Thank you! You're right, they can be hard too control, or it can make it look strange. But haveing it watery can also make some cool effects. Like the storm clouds, I had the paint pretty watery. If it wasn't, the color came out too dark. More water, paler color. Less water, stronger color

The wall, I think I'm just paranoid the color isn't smooth enough. Thinking about it though, it's pretty good. I'm just worry over nothing.

Thank you! It was kind of hard and easy to do at the same time. How'd I do it? (This could get a bit long)

Okay, see, the lightest color I use for her hair in my color pencil drawings is Raw Sienna, which I was lucky enough to have in watercolor paint as well. But when it's rather darker in the paint (or if I add the water to the watercolor pencil) So what I did to figure out where the shading and stuff would be is I took my watercolor pencil (Raw Sienna) and just very lightly went over it, making it darker where I planned on haveing shading and such. Then I made sure to water it down and use very light amount for the highlights and added a bit of "Yellow Ochre" as I headed into the shading. I used a touch of burn umber where it's darkest.

There's also this technique I know of. What you do is you wet down your brush, take you watercolor pencil of choice and then kind of roll the wet brush around it and load it with paint. I did this to get some golden brown worked into the color. I also did this for her skin.

I hope I didn't just waste you time

No, I've never tried those. If I see them at Wal-Mart I might think about getting some to try.

WEll its good to worry about stuff esp. your art ;3 What do you mean its no smooth enough 0-o

When I use watercolors I usually paint the general shape totally watery and then go back in a paint in details ;3

Ah..Thats a good way to do it XD Way to make sure the hair colors don't vary ;3 (my watercolored pencils, however are not labelled)

You should! Although they take some getting used to, they're so much fun XD

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Imprisoned-Fire In reply to RedShinigami99 [2008-09-06 16:16:12 +0000 UTC]

True, but too much of anything isn't good, that includs worrying. Well, the lower part to the left looks good, like it's one smooth color. But the other side looks kind of, patchy? I'm not sure how to describe it. But there are parts where it's lighter or darker then it should be.

That's how I did the sky alright. But I definitely wouldn't have wanted to do that with her hair. Wet paper smears the colors too much, but with damp paper you can keep the colors in place.

They aren't? Hmm, will if I was in your position, I would take a piece of paper and color a little patch (both dry and wet), then write a number or something by it and on the pencil. That way I could easily idintify them and compare them to somehting that does have a label.
I do the patch thing with my labelled ones anyway just to compare and remember what each color looks like. XD

I'll try to remember to be on the look out for them
