Description The Waitress.
In this scenario we examine a young gal coming home after a hard shift on a particularly hot night. We attempted to contrast the idea of her self awareness of her beauty with the grit and grime of the everyday grind.

The disorder demands order trying of art. At simple view, this photo is really shocking...a blow to the eye...but not to the heart. In this detail I found the impediment for qualify this square as perfect. Ironically: the imperfection The flaw lies in its radiant perfection.

What we have here? "An alone waitress", said us the title. Meaby the title is the real trouble: if would be a little more ironic, I would not have noticed this so perfectly calculated chaos, and would have very funny the attitude of the waitress, with her beauty marred by dint of enormous circles arround her eyes, her lost look that refers me to the zombie that, perhaps, all we are inside after a hard day's work and her bundled panty hoses that might suggest other kinds of fatigue: to be treated as a sexual object, for example, but not: all arround her is too much aesthetic para make us make us doubt the real intention of the photographer: definitly, his/her intention is obtein beauty from the ugliness, but nothing in this photo is ugly: Until the lovely shoe sided, apparently forgotten, was put here by a hand very worry for to get a beauty effect.

Technically is a great shot...But a great photo that does not convince me of the loneliness of the waitress ... or the girl who poses as a waitress. Maybe I demand too much realism, I apologize for that.

And I beg excuses for my Bad English too e.deviantart.net/emoticons/r/r… " width="15" height="15" alt="" title="Rose"/>

Hey there. I appreciate that you described our flaw as being 'too perfect,' but to be humble there is much more that can be achieved in this effort. Our intention is to find a place where one is truly exposed, both physically and mentally, and have it be grounded in a truly honest space. In many ways, her beauty (and the attention to detail in the set, etc.) makes it that much harder for us to keep the focus on our goal, but combined they make the image so much stronger. And there maybe some misunderstanding that the title is "Alone" and not "Lonely," which are two very different things.

Hi!
I feel a little shame because meaby I was very strict. I use to write critique only about photos that impressed me. Yours doesnt was the exception. At first sight I find it absolutely...beautiful. But, while I reviewed the photo for write the critique, I discovered details that faded a bit my original enthusiasm, and I decided -very to explain why. Anyway, as I wrote, the photo is very beautiful, and I added it to my favourites.
Otherwise, I think it admirable that despite not being entirely favorable laa have accepted my criticism. That indicates that you are a true artist, you do not have complex and understand that my intention was good.
Thanks so much

This photograph reminds me of a great painting of the 19th century: The poor Poet.
The high amount of details and the the observer's duty to think about the background and the story behind the visible, is something I really love about your work.

The colors make me have a surreal feeling because of the blue cast and the perfect lightning from behind the model.
Watching this photograph, different thoughts come up to my mind, especially: what happened to the woman? And then the obvious thought: was she violated?

The woman's expression doesn't allow another thought, her sad and desperate face, her helpless posture force me to think that. The wild mixed clothes, the objects lying around the bed and the somehow hidden keyhole perspective of the camera, make the whole scenery real and credible.

And - as I wrote before - at the same time it is surreal, because of the really well staged combination of the abundance of details and the well chosen, somehow non-realistic, colors with a blue cast.

The impact on me is very high, due to the already mentioned reasons. Technically (referring to you and the model both of you), I would say, it is almost close to perfection.
Did you put the lightning on her legs deliberately? That's the only thing that I don't really "like" (it sounds bigger than it is... it's a minor critique) about the picture: the color of her legs and the lightning on them confuse me.

But all the other things seem to be done on purpose: the cut luggage, the lopsided painting in the background, the perfectly dropped objects: it seems to be captured just the right moment, after the incident the woman went through.

I love it!

This is amazing!
Great atmosphere that made me think of G. Crewdson, but still different and individual.
Thumbs up.

This is just stunning!

I do agree that it made me think firstly of 'rape'. It is the pulled down tights. Perhaps this first impression combined with the second more considered look means that you are (consciously or not) comparing a truly horrible day at work to rape. Customers can really exploit under-paid workers and leave you utterly spent and broken.

I am amazed to see that you hadn't heard of Crewdson before! My mind instantly went to his work and not just for the delicate and carefully constructed set but the quality of the light and the post-production which gives everything that sort of 'plastic reality' look.

Again, absolutely stunning work. Congratulations to the whole team!

Thanks for your compliment (and for looking past the seemingly obvious). To be clear, Stacey (the sets half of the team) had heard of Crewdson and after I described this scene and how it was to be lighted she searched for his work (but couldn't remember his name). So it was nice to make the connection here.

Very dark piece, and very well done. I can't find anything wrong with this it's so wonderful, my only comment would be that maybe the mess is a little too organised. Exceptional model/photographer/lighting/stylist.

impureacts In reply to taximan675 [2011-09-07 18:33:25 +0000 UTC]

You would have to argue pretty hard ... our story is in the details. A forcible rape would include fresh bruising, something would be broken, the bed not straight to the wall, the buttons would be missing from her uniform which would also be slightly ripped (along with her hose). So I think you should look again.
