Finally finished! This table is carved from cherry wood and took about a year and a half.This piece was created in three major sections. The base is four layers of two inch thick stock laying down laminated together. The top is made in the same way with two layers. The center is four layers laminated together but standing up instead of laying down. The center was then mortise and tenoned into the base and top. Once I had that form built up I stated the initial shaping with a mini chainsaw and then proceeded to the detail carving with die grinders. It was then sanded and finished with a clear polyurethane.

Incredible woodworking, very impressive! I like the way the grain of the wood adds to the sense of movement in the rippling "skirt." While the detail carving is beautiful enough for the the piece to be treated solely as a work of art, it is also placed in a way that would not interfere with its functionality as a table.

How beautiful! The time taken to make it was definitely worth it! The wood really moves, and the grain really gives the flare at the bottom visual interest. I don't know a lot about woodworking, but I think it must be satisfying seeing all the little patterns that really give the wood character coming together. Really cool piece!

As a custom cabinet/furniture finisher, I don't know if I would be jumping at the chance to do finish work on a piece like this or if I would run the other direction. It's an absolutely beautiful piece, truly a work of art and I applaud your skills. I've seen some wonderful custom work before and I've contributed to Street of Dreams homes in the Pacific N.W. but I have never seen anything quite like this.

Its 26 inches tall and 24 inches wide. I've shown in a few galleries but I don't have one that consistently shows my work.

I have done some woodworking myself, and I can imagine how difficult this would be to make. It's truly amazing that you were able to make such realistic looking folds. Overall, an outstanding piece!
