beautiful beautiful beautiful. All the different tones on the horse's nose are just gorgeous, you've truly done a wonderful job in detailing this piece. The only think I would have liked to see you give a bit more care is the mane of the horse, idk what they call it xD but lord this is just too gorgeous either way.

Hmmm, I like to think of this hair tutorial whenever I draw hair, although I just pretty much do my own thing sometimes: [link]

I assume that it's the scanner that is making the left side fade away. I can see the faint outline there that doubtless looks much more forceful IRL; which is good. I was caught by the title: it seems almost a parody of conventional portraiture; or maybe I don't go outside enough.

In-The-Distance In reply to SenzaYume [2011-01-26 01:02:19 +0000 UTC]

Yeah it's pretty faint - it's the kind of picture that needs a background to define it instead of drawing a dark clear line along the edge

Wait wait wait. How did you get the coat looking so good?! (if an artist wants to share their secrets?)

Pretty amazing. Were the details done in pencil and the general undercolour done with watercolour?

In-The-Distance In reply to Ixi-Da-Pixie [2011-01-26 01:04:34 +0000 UTC]

Welll it's because I basically coloured with tiny little flicks/lines in the direction of the coat in order to make it look like fur It's the first time I've tried this technique actually. It also has a lot of random colours mixed in with the brown, such as purple and blue and skin colour. And yes you're right, the base colours were done with watercolours and then pencils were used over the top for the detial

8D Wow, it's beautiful! Is this watercolor, too?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

In-The-Distance In reply to WhiteExterior [2011-01-26 01:05:02 +0000 UTC]

It's watercolours for the base colours, and then coloured pencils over the top for the details
