(Random, just asnwer please?) What pencils do you use? I have 4B, 2B, and HB. I don't know what is used for what. xD I notice though, after testing each pencil on paper. One is darker, One is lighter, but I just use any of them for shading and drawing. I'm sure though that one is designed for shading and the other is for sketching or tracing?
I haven't taken any art classes....sooo...

I only ever took three art classes, one in middle school, two in high school. I'm pretty entirely self-taught, and to be sadly honest, I know very little of the technical side of art. I learned by observation of others' art, of real life, and through trial and error, pretty much entirely.

I use a mechanical pencil! .7 lead. I briefly tried messing with all the fancy pencils and things, but they honestly completely confused me, so I just stuck with the mechanical pencil I've been using for the past... hmm, at least seven years? Not to say you should completely disregard structured, traditional learning or specialized art tools, because a great many artists much better than me pretty much swear by them. Unfortunately, I can't personally help any with that particular problem, because I don't really know the answer. I would definitely suggest trying out some art programs, and also looking around for tutorials, both here on dA and on other art websites. You can probably do a google search to get some good information, and I think there's an entire category on dA dedicated to handy tutorial lessons from more informed artists.

I definitely wish you luck, though! And if you figure out what all those different types of pencils are, you'll all ready be a step ahead of me in the art world.

Thank YOU!!!

I took art in highschool, but all we did was draw for the whole hour in that class. -_- Didn't really learn anything about art....ugh.
