Description Receipt-scrap doodle at work today covering cafe break.

After pulling my second closing shift to six-am turnaround this week, if my boss thought sticking me in the cafe to cover break was going to produce anything but a staring, slack-jawed zombie barista or doodling, he must've bought his crack from Amy Winehouse's dealer.

This is the first rough draft of a new character in development. No name yet, but I know he's something like an incubus, and has a nasty Hellfire smoking habit.

Just a little, as I said. Cravings are just that, cravings. I have already made many promises to *not* smoke, and those will not be broken.

Since both my parents smoked (and both died to smoking-related diseases), I won't be burning any cigars anytime soon.

You think? That was the first physical feature I was sure of for him, long, narrow nose. Should be sort of unattractive, but by golly, he somehow makes it work.

I used two bic pens (one black, one red) and receipt paper. Then I played with it in Corel Paintshop Pro to make it niftier.

I like the features on him -- like, oddly together -- does that make sense? I also like the way he's looking down, as if he was really "looking down" on someone. What a way to show attitude in just a profile, girlie!

Aww, thanks, babydoll! You nailed him pretty well, too. I dunno if he's an incubus, or descended from one, or whatever, but I do know he draws power from sex/desire/love/lust, or whatever, and the girl I'm writing about is one of very, very few people who's immune to his magic... but not necessarily to his bizarre charm and ridiculous hotness. He's not what you would call traditionally handsome--his nose is too long, and a little narrow, and his lips are wide and thin, but his high, angular cheekbones and strong, square jaw pull it all together somehow. They have a tease/friendly/mutual aggravator sort of relationship. He likes to rile her up, and she enjoys deflating his ego. He's going to be fun, I know it.

That is a pretty cool backstory. (Remind me to talk to you about a set of characters and a situation I had thought up once and never done anything with -- and thought briefly about doing up right for NaNo but never got around to figuring them out...but you could probably help. I could use your knowledge of all things urbanfantasty for this one, I think. And they aren't fanfic! *gasp!*)

The way you describe his charm reminds me a bit of Fimia and her Zeltron-ness. But I like that sort of the side-effect of being an incubus (or descendant) is that he's got this sort of charm that oozes off him, whether he will or nay. (At least, that's sort of what I got from your description, which is why it reminds me of Fims, since if she doesn't work on sort of controlling her Zeltron-ness, she would be attracting all sorts of people...and the fact that people NOTICE her wherever she goes and that guys have this feeling of wanting her when they see her is sort of the leftover that she can't do a thing with.)

Huh, I dunno if he can breathe fire (totally going to have consider that now, though), but it's more that he smokes a certain sort of cigarette of otherworldly tobacco (more like clove cigarettes than tobacco, though) the smoke of which, when exhaled, tends to be a glowy red with sparks in it. He's definitely gonna be a fun one.

The way you drew the hair in combination with the vapors of his breath creates a very raw and dynamic feel.
