Yes, and when I think I have something to worry about, I try to remember how lucky I am for everything.

This shows the Human side of the Middle east that's very lacking in the minds of many Xenophobic Americans/Europeans and Westerners. Poor Old Man looks like he lost a son or someone close to him in an Attack by Suicide bombers or American Drones.

I have been reading the comments. This is a very moving photo as demonstrated by the intensity of comments. People seem to connect very personally to the image. I admit that I wanted to comment, but did not feel I could properly convey my emotional response and felt that anything I said would not do it justice.
I wanted to hug him, sit and cry with him, console him. Thank you for sharing this powerful image.

I think it's not poverty of the financial kind in this photo. The man's clothes are clean and not in tatters. There are other kinds of sorrows.

I agree. When looking at the picture as part of the series and from a mother's perspective, I see a concern for his posterity. The power of this photo is that the viewer will connect with the emotion whatever the cause...

You are right, I have seen the old man around my area a number of times. He is employed as a domestic cook and also has a small flock of goats.

This always happens in Pakistan. everywhere I go, i see people begging for money, kids with barely any clothes on their backs, and old men struggling to get around.
I'm proud to be Pakistani, but it saddens me that so many people need help, and the government doesn't do anything about it. even though our religion stresses the importance of charity (it's one of the 5 pillars), Islamic countries have one of the highest rates of poverty in the world.
thank you for posting this picture, it's beautifully stunning, but at the same time, makes my heart ache...

My parents weren't born in the U.S and on their way here from their country they had to stop in Pakistan. My Mother told me she had never seen such a poor country, and that people were pulling at their luggage, begging for money.

How do you know that's on his mind. He's just watching to something that doesn't work.
I faved it because of the strong pose. Thank you.

i saw an old pakistani man the other day, standing besides a trash bin when i was on my way to lunch he seems troubled turns out his begging for money and he was pointing at his feet seems he can barely walk i dont know about urdu but i hear him say sugar as he gestures down his swollen right foot i gave him 10 riyals saving the remaining 13 riyal for my lunch money he keeps saying some other stuff that i couldnt understand i just turned my back at him and walked away,he reminds me of my dad and its painful i need to get out of there thats what i thought...

no man i dont feel kind when i did that, i feel guilty and ashamed i just wanted to get out of there, i mean i dont know how can i communicate and if i did i dont think i could help, he was on the verge of crying i can feel his helplessness man and it shames me
i dont think its thank you it was pronounce sugar and he was pointing at his feet i think his trying to tell he has diabetes or something. the doctor said my dad could possibly have cancer and last time i was with him he couldnt get up the bed just making this hurt noises. i hope the pakistani man find his way home to his family its hard to be far away and ill.
