Location: French Colony, Islamabad, Pakistan

Sometimes just a little bit of colour brings about a great change in mood and behaviour. The cyan blue of the brick contrasted and complemented by the yellow of the T shirt , gave their looks and stares a less ominous appearance than a monochrome would have. Then again after walking though the dark dingy and cramped pathways .. I didnt want to discard the spice that colour brought.

The "French Colony" as it is locally known is a small ghetto where Christians live and have historically lived in Islamabad since Islamabad was made. There are two main Ghettos, this one and the "100 houses" as it is known. When Islamabad was being built and initially inhabited, the majority of Christians where sanitary workers and very poorly paid. They were allowed to construct huts and small houses (but devoid of the utilities support the rest of Islamabad has). This French Colony got its name from the fact that at one time The French Embassy stood majestically in front it. Now its cramped , over crowded, still lacking proper water and sanitation and gas and electricity after almost 70 years. It is completely walled and has just two narrow entrances/exits. It is physically and mentally claustrophobic
