The sky was aflame with a crimson glow.Bolts of lightning tore at the ground and the river swelled like a heaving bosom.It was as if the Demon World was at war with itself,desperate to rip itself apart at the seams.Yet even all that madness paled in comparison to the chaos that raged within Raziel's heart.

It had been several years since the death of his beloved wife,and his sons had long since grown up and left home.Although the empty nest syndrome had passed,and although his duties as the Demon King kept him busy,still there was a deep emptiness in his soul that he could not seem to rid himself of.

He had often thought about searching for a new love,but his work always kept him too busy to pursue a serious relationship.At least,that was what he told himself.Deep down inside,he knew the truth.He knew that the real reason that he did not seek a new love was because he believed that he would never find another love who was as good as his dead wife.She had been one-of-a-kind.He knew he could never replace her,even if he were to live forever.Still,it never hurt to dream...

"My lord!"

Raziel looked up from his musings to find one of his servants standing in the doorway."What is it?"He sighed."Well?Speak up,man!What do you want?"

The servant,having witnessed firsthand what Raziel was capable of when angered,was understandably nervous as he opened his mouth to speak."My lord,"he said "there is an urgent matter that requires your immediate attention sir."

"Very well," Sighed Raziel."Lead the way,then."Rising from his chair,he followed the servant out of the room,burying himself in his work to forget the pain in his heart and wondering if he was truly fated to spend the rest of his life alone...
