I think what worked for me was the background, it both complimented and contrasted this image more than in the other one. To me the colors in the background of the other image blend the forground character too much where as with this one she pops.
It is a nice contrast with the greens and her red hair and her green eye and camera eye are like the machine eyes behind her. This is just my opinion and what do I know? LOL Both are still amazing in my book just a matter of preference.

I kind of like this one better. I enjoy the steampunk thing, but I think I'm missing something about it. (Like the basic premise!) I do dearly love the contraptions, though...

I think the other picture has more interest than this one, I think this is too subtle even for me

After a second hard look, I think that it's the red-green contrast that tends to capture my attention. Being a sucker for red haired, green eyed lasses, this simply works for me. Like I said, I'm missing something basic about steampunk. The eye lens, for example, leaves me

Ah I understand now, I must admit i'm a bit of a sucker for all the steampunk stuff, love it. I think your correct about the colouring the red/green does make for a better contrast but I like the detail in the other one. I did try and combine the two but it all went a bit wrong when I changed the hair.
