CHARACTER BASICS
{Name} Adair
*Pronounced as Ah-DAIR
*Born as Alasdair, name was shortened to Adair so much that it stuck
*Often called "Lad" by pretty much everyone close to him
{Name} 21
{Gender} Cis Male
{"Clan"} Mountain Callers (adopted into)
{Story's Start} As a 21-year-old in the fall of 1700 S.A.
{Breed} Unicorn [Marwari + Gypsy Vanner mix]
{Coat Color} Bay paint horse, horns and hooves are made of blue labradorite.
{Height} 16 Hands
{Build} Tall, but relatively lean. Quite well-muscled.
*note: I'm not the pickiest person when it comes to how you draw Lad. Just try to keep his big marks there and somewhat in the same place, but don't worry about making them exact.
{Herd Affiliation} War-Forged
{Rank} Shield
Despite being young, Adair has recently acquired the rank of Shield, and hopes to prove that he is, indeed, experienced enough, strong enough to protect his leader, do as much for her as his sisters, Alyshia and Addeva do.
{Voice/Dialect} "War-Forged has a very heavy, jarring Scandanavian-esque accent that gets heavier the more north you go. Skeldr equines may have a thicker accent than the farmers further south, but nothing near as thick as the northernmost settlements such as the Bloody Flanks." -queerly

Golem Lindworm ( updated information!)
- Adair stumbled across Rune shortly after he was married to Chekilla. His wedding gift from his father, Edmond, was a plot of land-- his favorite of his father's estate. He built a small cabin for him and his wife there, under the shadow of several oak trees. While he was cleaning the land to build the foundations for the house, Adair found an unusual piece of metal lost underground. It seemed to be shaped like an arrow or speartip, with ancient runes across its edges. The elements or something else had made them impossible to read though. As someone who has a fascination for weapons of any kind, Adair decided to keep it, not knowing he had, in fact, been the one chosen by the dormant lindworm.
- In a species that is already known for its agressiveness, Rune is particularly bad tempered. It'll take Adair some time to be able to fully control him. Once they do bond properly, Rune will prove to be arrogant and proud, always looking to the world with a measure of disdain. He may be stubborn just for the sake of annoying Adair, and seems to take pleasure in that. Despite his complicated personality, he's very attached to the young Shield, and - while it's hard to tell - appears to genuinely care for him.
- Adair discovered Rune's existence when Alyshia was turned into an unicorn by Kaia. While searching for her (and finding nothing, as his adoptive sister had been taken to the Starscape by the goddess), there was a disturbance in the earth around him, as if Kaia had been angry (and indeed she had, and had nearly killed Alyshia in the process). Responding to Kaia's energy, Rune burst out from the spearhead, destroying a good portion of Edmond's land. Adair was eventually able to calm him down, after nearly getting killed a couple of times. He's currently very worried about the idea of Rune coming out again to play.
- Rune came into existence due to Kaia's call during the Gods' War, 'born' from a broken aodhian spearhead. All the time he was active, up until now, all he knows is war. Due to that, he's extremely aggressive and believes everyone is an enemy, which is why Adair will have to work with him in order to better his control on his very large partner. Rune seems to be very agile, 'swimming' through the earth with more grace than most golems. It would even be considered beautiful if he wasn't, y'know, destroying everything.
- Rune's body is made of unknown metal, mostly, as well as obsidian. His eyes are not white, but silver, and possess an almost metallic quality.
PERSONALITY
{Quiet & Calm} {Protective & Loyal} {Determined & Efficient} {Straightforward & Honest} {Patient & Kind} {Adventurous & Cautious} {Polite & Disciplined} {Curious & Intelligent} {Proud & Occasionally Reckless} {Confused 24/7}
Growing up as the oldest of a large family since his adoption, Lad plays the part of "Older big brother" quite well, and it shaped his personality to what it is today. He is fiercely protective of his younger siblings, a trait that has expanded to include any horse that might need help and, especially, Hira, namely after she made his sisters Valkyries. While Adair isn't quite sure of what to think of the group of independent mares, the way Hira made Alyshia and Addeva happy... More than anything, it's what gained her Adair's utter and complete devotion, something that was only made stronger when he saw that the changes she made inside the herd made some angry, yes, but also countless others happy. He admires her greatly, and because of that, is very protective of his War Lord.
Another key trait of Adair is his desire to better serve his herd. Unknown to him, his father, Conrad, trained the child since colthood to be worthy of a rank like the Shield -- believing that, if anything, the boy should at least bring him some honor. After his passing, Adair's uncle, Muiris, took over most of his training, and regardless of teacher, Adair was always encouraged to try harder, fight better, study more. Because of his young age, this is particularly obvious when it comes to him- he feels the need to be constantly improving in order to match the older, more experienced Shields. Being an older brother also gave Adair another few assets: he is both efficient and patient. With a little brother like Ales, Adair got a full work out regimen, able to clean over his messes and calmy teach him that no, you can't touch Dad's old Raider things, again and again and again. He was rather surprised to see how well that has kept his head cool during his years as a Raider- it takes a lot to reach Lad's breaking point. Always eager to help the horse he calls father, whenever Edmond needs anything, Alasdair does it quickly and efficiently, without a second thought. He is rather familiar with the politics of the Stone Circle trough his father, and knows more about Hira than the typical War Forged horse, even if the information was given to him second-hand. He now serves Hira as smoothly as he did Edmond.
Despite being more comfortable in his home, Adair is young and adventurous. Despite not enjoying the harsh ways of the Raiders, he did enjoy the opportunity to know more, learn new things, and he's always curious. Despite being quiet, he's very polite and friendly, and does not mind talking about himself. Above all, he's just a kind-hearted guy who wants the best for everyone, but knows that things usually don't go as planned, and who will do anything to make sure everything will turn out alright. Because of that, he may be easily dismissed, but hopefully not underestimated, as he will ruthlessly do anything necessary to keep horses like his family, and now especially Hira, safe. He is not comfortable with bloodshed, but knows what his job is and what he must do. It's a grim reality, but one he has long since accepted. One interesting fact about him is that, while stoic, he's not closed off, just very good at feigning indifference... Especially since that was the way his birth father always acted around him. Because of that, he may be in pain, exhausted, and ready to collapse... But it won't be obvious to the untrained eye. He's more of a follower than a leader, carrying out his orders without batting an eye, regardless of how difficult it may be, but he's also well used to situations in which he needs to take control, and the idea doesn't scare him.
Now, a few of the downsides of being the big brother happens to be how proud he is. You see, Adair grew up being the 'provider', in a way. He's the one who practically helped Edmond raise the kids. He's the voice of reason. He helps them solve their problems. So, because of that, he doesn't like to let others see that he needs help. Conrad also pushed this to be even more prominent in Adair. He's a stallion, he should be strong for others, not weak. In current SA time, this is exceptionally true now that he's a Shield. Of course, he's mature enought to not let his pride get between him and his duty, so he wouldn't really hope to fight someone who has abilities beyond him without help, but short of an emergency/direct command from Hira... it may make him reckless, push his limits too much, in order to prove himself. The one exception to this rule is Alyshia, since she had always been there to support him, even before his father died, and they have this I'll-watch-your-back-and-you'll-watch-mine sort of relationship.
Lastly, Adair's childhood happened exactly as Hira took over as War Lord... Due to that, his political views fluctuate greatly between the old ways of the War Forged and the changes Hira has been doing to it. For example, does he approve of the Valkyries? Not... Not quite. But... They seem happy. They are turning into a force that can be reckoned with. Even if he doesn't agree... Is it really that bad? Is Hira really ill-suited for power, the way older stallions claim, if the changes she's making are improving the lives of many in the herd? Or, as another example, slavery. He technically understands why weeding out the weak makes the herd stronger, but he's also horrified at himself for accepting of turning another thinking creature into a servant. (TL;DR: he's a confused litttle bean who doesn't know what to believe in, but thoughts such as these will not stop him from giving his life to defend Hira if necessary.)
BACKSTORY
[ Summary ]
- Adair is born to Edmond's soon-to-be-wife, Jadis, and Conrad, his best friend;
- Was blessed before birth by Ignacio via Jadis' request;
- Conrad goes around the Council rule by requesting to have a foal with his wife. They claim Lad to be theirs;
- Conrad's wife, Linnäe, dies a few months after Lad's birth.
- Being a sailor, Conrad constantly leaves in raids. Adair usually stays with Edmond and Jadis. Edmond still doesn't know he is his wife's son.
- After getting angry in Alyshia's behalf, Lad manifests his blessing, Heat Vision, for the first time.
- Two years later, Conrad dies in a shipwreck. Edmond adopts Alasdair.
- At age 17, Adair leaves with his uncle, Muiris, to learn and be a Raider. He constantly visits, though.
- in SA's current time, Adair feels helpless. While he's good at being a Raider, he doesn't enjoy it. He hates watching his sisters nearly get killed in Valkyrie business. He also doesn't feel comfortable being a scout. Or a farmer. Or a merchant. He hates that he has been trained since foalhood to be a fighter but does not enjoy the way he's using his skills. Edmond then suggests that, should Hira agree, Lad could become a Shield. That way, he would feel more useful in his herd, his skills as a Raider would be put to good use.

[ In-Game History ]
After becoming a Shield, Adair found himself struggling with the need to prove that he was good enough for the rank, and that he didn't get it just because he's the son of a famous politician.
CHAPTER ONE-FOUR
Did not participate - was not in the group yet. In Character: working as a Raider across Onea.
CHAPTER FIVE
Adair was working as a bodyguard in one of the Council meetings when a giant, fully grown tree sprouted from the middle of the stone table. It was clearly the work of Kaia - and they received a message from the goddess that day, but none of the horses seemed to be able to understand what she wanted of them. Was she warning them over the Bloody Flanks? Something even worse? The thing that sunk those villagers into the earth? Adair was very inexperienced then, and just like the others, was very confused over the fact.
- In the next Spring, Adair offcially married his betrothed, Chekilla, after reconnecting with her a couple months prior. It's a fairly new relationship, but he always did have a bit of a crush on her, and is secretly elated that they're together now. -
CHAPTER SIX
Adair was tasked with protecting Evokar and Fox and escort them to a different village and back to Skeldr Town. During the trip back, the bridge they were traveling through broke down, sending Fox and a farmer that had joined their caravan, Gwen, into the river. Adair managed to rescue both mares, and ended up becoming penpals with Gwen.

EXTRAS
Never found out that he was Jadis and Conrad's ilegitimate child.
Worries far too much about others' safety compared to his own.
Preferred past-time is reading.
The day that babysitting, or spending time with Alyshia, Addeva and/or Ales gets boring to Alasdair has yet to arrive.
Despite not being overly fond of it, Adair is an extremely skilled fighter, and does enjoy the physical exercise, relishing in the burn of his muscles after a particularly long sparring session. He very much enjoys keeping his body in shape.
[From his backtory]: Amelia was a mare that had been betrothed to an older stallion with a twisted mind. Abused and traumatized, she begged for Adair's help when he and another fellow Raider, Ivan, passed by her village. They confronted the stallion about his ways, as Amelia showed physical signs of abuse, and the stallion accepted Adair's challenge to a fight in order to settle the issue. Despite being a difficult fight, Lad did win. To his surprise, Ivan decided to settle down with Amelia in his birth-village, and both remain good friends with him.
Conrad never paid his respects to any god, but Linnäe was extremely devout to Kaia, and thus, so is Adair. He's also intrigued by Argus, as he is Edmond's patron god and thus a common topic of conversation.
Conversely, Ignacio confuses him. He has no idea of his father's and Jadis' little thryst, and thus, has no idea why the fire god would bless him with Heat Vision. He does pray to him constantly, seeking his guidance as much as Kaia's.
Aodh intrigues him. He has a particular dislike for slavery and vagabonds after what happened to Alyshia, but... yet. He's intrigued. In a slightly superior way, though. He can't take the flashy Aodhians too seriously. Besides, Jadis didn't exactly paint a nice picture of them.
Adair has never experienced any sort of attraction to stallions. He's not averse to polygamy though.
That said, despite assuming he'll settle down with a nice, kind mare someday, he has a thing for strong, dominant females.
