Horse Name: ERS French Chex to Cash
Rider/Handler Name: Amaris Thompson
Class: Texas Barrels
Story:
"Chex is a reining and cutting horse, what makes you think he can run barrels?" Romulus asked Amaris as she tacked Chex up for his Texas Barrels run.
"Look at his pedigree, speed, and past results. If he wants to be a barrel horse, he can be a barrel horse, if he wanted to be a pink flamingo, he can be a pink flamingo with some pink paint. Chex can do anything if his mind is set on it." Amaris said with a smile as she cinched the saddle up and grabbed Chex's bridle, he opened his mouth at the sight of the bridle and let Amaris adjust it. After a minute of brushing and applying leg wraps, he was ready to make his second barrel run of his career. Amaris warmed up and waited patiently for their turn. Beside the duo was a girl and her mare, Chex nickered to the mare in an attempt to make friends before she turned her back to him. He turned his attention back to Amaris and Romulus, who were in deep conversation about the stables Quarter Horse program and what they needed to improve and correct. Chex was bored listening to them quickly, he watched the beautiful bay mare, Tiff? was her name, walk past him and take off on the pattern. After a couple minutes of waiting for the arena announcer to finish his long-winded introduction, the gates flew open and Chex charged out like a champion, making deep, tight turns around each barrel and dashing wildly back to home. Amaris looked up for their time and was met with a pleasant surprise. Her time was excellent, a personal best for Chex, who was walked over to the trailer and untacked and walked back with a halter. Strangely enough, he liked watching as much as the people did. They tied him out on the fence and stood talking about future events they could enter him in. Kids ran around the place, wanting to see the bucking bulls that were housed outback for a rodeo that was planned for the next day. One blonde-haired little girl, dressed in cowboy boots and a button shirt walked up to Chex softly and patted his head when he lowered it for her. The little girl proceeded to walk underneath his belly, an act that would frighten any horse, but instead, Chex kept a watchful eye on the girl so he wouldn't step into her space or bump her. The girl's mother quickly ran over and grabbed her daughter and apologized for her daughter. Amaris and Romulus looked at each other and then Amaris spoke,"It's safe to say he's dead broke. Whoever started him under saddle did phenomenal work with him."
