Description Funny how this actually started out as a Troodon. But then my mind started wandering and I decided I wanted to draw a cockatrice.

Anyway, he's still not that old. The feathers on his wings aren't grown in the whole way yet to cover his claws and he's actually still a "pretty boy" at this stage. I might just do a whole cockatrice growth picture or something.

I like to think the chicks and juveniles had somewhat of a camouflage to hide them from hunters and other predators while they grew up.

Not sure if I got the spurs right... I do love how the scales turned out though. It was tough to get them to show up against the color.

This is exactly how I picture a cockatrice. Actually if you look up gigantoraptor it's exactly what a cockatrice is described as. Cept it doesn't breath fire...

Very well done ! But when I look at any "bird" now, even a Cockatrice. Its just another dinosaur to me, as is every other dragon or "bird" .

Thanks very much. I know what you mean. I still like to think the raptor-like dinosaurs are still among us today, they just look different.

Your very welcome .

And agreed, I see them all around me and hear their songs. I even have to little "birdeys" as pets (parts of the family) . So I'll ever foget the their past .

Oh, it's really awesome! I love his head details and the pose ^^ Also his legs look pretty cool, and all the feather and scale details are nice. I'd like to hug him, but I think he has scarily sharp-looking teeth and claws

Thanks much! I actually had a hard time getting those tiny scales to show up against the color...since I'd already colored him and forgot about putting them in. Lol I think if you tried to hug him, he might turn you to stone with his gaze.

Heh, I bet, it's darn hard to try to add details like that with colored pencils if you have happened to color the pic already But at least you did manage to put them there after all ^^
Yeah, that could be possible, and I'm not so fascinated about the idea of being a statue xD

Interesting take on the cockatrice, I like how you substituted snake attributes for dinosaur ones, very creative. I also like the idea that it has flashy plumage instead of just being a dull colored creature I'd be interested to see what an adult would look like.

Thanks much! It's funny where one idea can take you to the next like that. I'm thinking about doing a growth picture sometime from chick to adult.

I think I heard of that! Wasn't there a special called "Dinosaurs: Back to Life"? I think I may have that on dvd...

Sweet. It'd be cool if they managed to, somehow after many many years, bring a dinosaur to life, more or less a chicken-ish one.

Thanks for the fave as well!

Such a young "pretty" little guy...for now.
I think all animals are innocent, even the cockatrice, even with the actual "looks could kill" thing lol. Thanks so much.

Thanks much! I don't like my art to be overly complicated if I can help it. Only if necessary. Thanks again. But I still say you can draw a better T-rex than me any day.

Awesome though, and as usual I adore your coloring style!
