First; the inevatable;How did I get a crow skull?
No, I did not find it.
I have a huge garden, and we do everything we can to keep crows out. Spinners, whirlies, flapping platic stips, everything.
There is one tribe that had a vicious bold leader who would pull everything in sight.
(NOT from the tribe Bob, our crow buddy, is in!)
So, with the trouble-inducing leader gone, life if safe in the garden. And I have another skull in my collection.
Understand, there are three distinct 'tribes' that border on one another here, and we work to live with them.
We even have an old pet crow.

I coulda swore flocks of crows were called murders, not tribes..

It's been sort of proven that the term 'murder of crows' was a little used term that is over quoted.
Recently, the illustrator John Howe wrote this short observation on the matter;
Intrigued by the term βa murder of crowsβ, looked up origins of same. Most cited: βa mursher of crowysβ, Egerton Ms, c.1450. Then through βmurtherβ to βmortherβ (already extant in 1379), but nowhere can βmursherβ be found to signify βmurderβ. All the rest is speculation. Most unsatisfactory etymologically. Hapax legome...non? Homonymy? Nonce word? But then, ravens come in unkindnesses. Language and birds, never simple.
