Description Eheheh.. what a grump. Just look at him. |D;

This was a little unorthodox to work on, since I originally doodled it about.. a month ago?
I started painting over the lines a little, but then ended up doing all sorts of crazy backwards things to get the lines the way they are now.
Lots of duplicating layers, changing layer modes, etc. etc. It was fun, though!

I opted for some really vibrant pink-ish shading this time around, to help tie in his colours with his trademark rose.
( seriously, all these characters I like that are associated with roses why- )
I really like how it turned out, though to be fair, I'm especially fond of the shaping of his pose and his fedora..

I think the bold lines work well with the bright shading.
Hopefully I'll try to consistently recreate this sort of thing in the future. xD;

You'll also notice that Korvan here doesn't have any special fur or anything.. main reason being, none of the fur colours look particularly good with his outfit.
He just ends up looking cluttered. |D So hurrah! I've basically looked like this since I started playing the game. :'D

I lied, I completely forgot that I gave him a bit of a shoulder marking / back stripe, which obviously doesn't exist in-game. In-game, he's just a plain ol brown mouse. :b

Otherwise, umm.. cheers? I've gotta get back to studying now so. |D
GOODBYE FRIENDS. /flies away/

Very nice pose! And I like the shading color~
He looks so adorably moody, I love it!

And yes, his not having extra marking is good. I like him a lot, wow

Aww, thank you Psy!
I'm really glad to hear that all of those things worked out. ;v;

Eheheh I feel kinda self-conscious and plain in-game where everyone is ~fancy~. xD
But now he can bask in the glory of your love and feel a little less nekkid. |D

Glad you like him! ;u;

Oh my gosh this is adorable ;u; I love how he comes off as a 'badass' haha c:
And dat pinkish shading<3 You have such a good concept of shading.. I never know what colors to use or where the light should hit >.<

Thankyou, Taylor! You've always got such nice things to say. ;o;
That's one of my favourite things about his personality, I'm really glad to hear that my art of him shows it. ;u;

To be honest, I've only recently started moving away from always using blues and purples to shade.. it's all about experimentation! In this case, I wanted to help harmonize the colours better, so I picked a shade that stood out a lot in his design. c:

As for where the light hits, try to imagine each part of the body in 3D - which parts are rounded, and what parts are "blocked" from the light by other parts in front of them. It's kind of hard to explain, but I definitely didn't get used to it overnight. xD;

You're very welcome! <3 Awe, I'm glad you think so^^ But everything I say, is true and I mean it c:
Yeah, haha it seems to be the vibe he gives off! Of course it does, you always seem to show personality very well in your characters.

Oh really? That's awesome! I'm glad you're trying something new<3 It looks great! And yeah, that's true, that's something I'm always afraid to do though >.< Idk why! Yeah, I think it works very well with his design c:

Oh ok, that makes sense! I've heard that before. It sounds sorta hard to do though.. Yeah, it probably takes a lot of work to be able to get it right. Thanks for the tip! c:

He'll be glad to hear that, it's the vibe he wants to give off. xD
And thanks again! c:

Haha me too, it makes me feel like I'm actually starting to leave my safety box. :b And don't worry, I think that's the natural reaction people have to moving away from what they normally do. The good thing with digital art is that you can always play around on separate layers and whatnot and not have to worry about permanently making mistakes. : D

It is a bit strange to apply at first ( trust me, my first shaded things- ohgods ), but after a while you sort of get used to the patterns of where light will fall. I'm sure you'll get it. And no problem! c:

Haha awesome! xD
No problem! c:

That's great! As an artist, that's probably one of the best things you can do is leave your comfort zone which is something I seem to struggle with :/ *Ehem* Backgrounds. Yeah true! I know, that's why I love digital art c: That, being able to fix anatomy easier, and I find it more enjoyable!

Yeah no kidding! Haha now I'm curious on what they looked like x3 My first shaded things were definitely horrifying though too. Oh ok awesome! c: Thanks for the confidence xD

I don't think anyone's ever said they have no problem leaving their comfort zone, so don't feel bad. The trick is to not worry too much if something doesn't turn out as well as you hoped right away, because the practice will help fix it in the long run. ;v; ( basically me and humans ) |D;

Ohgods being able to fix anatomy haha. You guys have nooo idea how much I have to edit my human sketches in PS before they look right. ''orz And same! Maybe because the colours are more vibrant and textures and- though I sometimes find traditional art to be so simple and therapeutic. ;v;

Well, there's this . It's so light and you can hardly even see it. xD

TheStringofFate In reply to Inkshadow [2013-04-28 23:55:49 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, that's true! It's a scary thing x3
Yeah, I seem to have problems with that though haha I get very impatient. And yes, practice is the key to becoming a better artist.

Oh gosh yes! Digital art is perfect for that. Layers & transformations & undo button <3
Lol I have to edit every sketch so much!
Yeah I like the colors in digital art c:
Yeah it is at times!

Lol nice! Well the light source isn't bad!

Inkshadow In reply to TheStringofFate [2013-04-30 10:19:57 +0000 UTC]

Ohhyeah, I can see that as being a good thing though, if you can use it to motivate yourself to practice more! I'm super super patient, so I usually just let things slowly evolve without worrying too much ( it just takes a while longer ). xD;

Everything you mentioned is basically my best friend LOL. Especially the undo button, you could hear me pressing it like every second of my stream. |D;

Haha omgg I thought so too at the time, but after years of practice, it's just- ohmygod. D8

Yeah, I understand where you're coming from!
Oh haha you're actually pretty lucky that way, I'm SO impatient it's terrible!

Mine too <3 I love them all without them I would be nothing!
Hahaha xD Nice, me too, especially with lineart!
And ahhh, you haven't done a stream in awhile! (Or I keep missing journals ) I miss your streams!

Lol! Yeah I look back at my old art and I'm like WHAT IS THAT IT'S NOT EVEN ART, IT'S A BLOB! xD

Inkshadow In reply to TheStringofFate [2013-05-09 19:19:16 +0000 UTC]

Haha yeah, it's really nice to feel relaxed about it. Though whenever I do actively try to work on something ( ie. drawing people ), I have no idea where to start LOL.

Omg same, I would be so lost otherwise. :'c And don't get me started on lineart haha, I'm too OCD for this. D8
They've been a bit more sporadic that I would have liked, to be honest. n__n; But I actually did one on Apr 26 and one on Tuesday as well. ovo;
Now they are even more weirdstrangerandom because I've got a mic. |D

Haha yesss I know that feel LOL.

Why so grumpyyy? D;

I do like the pinkish shading. It ties in really well, yes. I gotta work on this unifying colours business.

Inkshadow In reply to AkiCat [2013-04-12 08:49:06 +0000 UTC]

Knowing Korvan, he probably lagged and lost his first. |D; =w=
Alternatively, he's a sore loser. :'D

Thank you for the compliments as well! I'm glad it worked out, I'm still a little hesitant to leave my safety box of blues and purples for shading. xD;
Well, shading with colours is always good! Sometimes I also just throw on a separate layer with one colour / a gradient, and change the layer mode / opacity. Maybe they'll work for you too? ovo

.. I should probably also actually learn formal colour theory, but ehh- |D;

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AkiCat In reply to Inkshadow [2013-04-13 02:36:31 +0000 UTC]

Colour theory. Meh. Some people just have a thing for colour, breaking rules and doing awesome things with it. Others just get stuck inside the boundaries and....well yeah. :/

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Inkshadow In reply to AkiCat [2013-04-17 04:33:17 +0000 UTC]

Haha yeah, that does happen sometimes. I just figure it can't hurt to learn about it and see for myself what it is, because I really.. don't have a clue. |D;

I just do everything instinctively at the moment, to be honest. =w=;

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AkiCat In reply to Inkshadow [2013-04-18 23:09:45 +0000 UTC]

Well even if you don't get a chance to take a colour theory class, I wouldn't worry about it.

Oh I'd probably just take a look at the hundreds of tutorials floating around on the Internet. For some reason I've never been really big on actual art classes. I think I just like experiment with new art techniques at my own pace. xD

Especially since I'm mostly just curious more than anything. ovo;

Have you seen [link]

Apparently it's really good. A quick glance makes me think it's very interesting, but I haven't had time yet to sit myself down and look in detail.

Nope, but I have now. xD
I've actually never heard of it, but then again, that doesn't really surprise me since not an art student and all. : d

I'll have to check that out sometime as well. Thanks for the link! : D

I can't say that I'm familiar with the character, but from what Google tells me, perhaps it's the hat + glasses combo? It's very stylish. :b
Glad you like this!

RegulaDestroya In reply to Inkshadow [2013-04-11 23:00:08 +0000 UTC]

Definitely the hat+glasses...and also the tie a bit XP...but its better than Elwood because its a rat...

P.S. you should watch the blues brothers..its a great movie

Haha well, what can I say? He dresses for success. xD
And rats are definitely pretty awesome! For some reason, I never come across people outside of the Internet who like them. :c

It looks like it's outside of my usual, but I'll definitely keep it in mind for when I've got free time in the summer. ovo
