Thanks! The puddle was one of those "eureka" moments for me in terms of negative space drawing. I didn't quite get the ripples right, though... next time for sure.

oh man! I love this. I know its been said, but the shield is sick! great concept. I can imagine the painstaking process of skinning a human would be terrible. This soldier really strikes fear into his enemies.

Haha.. for some reason the skin on the shield makes me laugh, cause its got chest hair.
But still very awesome, the overall composition of the picture is breathtaking, from the inverted shadows to the birds above.

Nope, only the Soldier. I did a lot of illustrations for the book, but I think they're keeping most of 'em under wraps until the release (or at least closer to).

Thanks! I can't remember how much of that was in the description, but since I'm not normally so gruesome I think it must have originated with the art director.

I take it the digital inking is holding up well for you? I have been thinking of buying the Cintiq 21UX because of being able to draw directly on the screen. Looks good man.

Inkthinker In reply to AndrewFroedge [2008-07-04 01:31:57 +0000 UTC]
I'm very fond of the Cintiqs I work with at Fates, but I still don't own one at home. I think all the work done for this book came from my 9x12 lap-tablet, and I really can't say which is best... there's advantages to both, and I do know a couple of painters who swear by their tablets because they prefer their hands to be "invisible". I find it more effortless to use a Cintiq, which just feels more like drawing the way I've always done it, yet I can't say it's necessarily "better". But if you can make the investment, it's probably worth it.

AndrewFroedge In reply to Inkthinker [2008-07-04 05:49:56 +0000 UTC]
My main reason's for wanting Cintiqs is the control. The simple act of being able to rotate the canvas is biggest. I also have issues with line control when I can not put hand to paper that of course would just be being able to rotate again. There is that and the cost of paper and other supplies these days. The Cintiqs is expensive but it would eventfully pay for it's self and in all honesty, I do not think it would take that long. Now if your PC is sporting a newer ATI Video card...all the better. ATI has a higher quality image than Nvidia Video cards. I would highly suggest ATI for Illustrators.
