I think he should look on the bright side; the brim could be smaller and those could be icicles instead of dripping rain.

Heh. That helmet is one of the only designs from this piece that I still use. Why *wouldn't* you want a wide-brimmed helm if you're going to wear it in all weather? Shade from the sun, a bit of cover from the rain. History backs me up, too, there are real examples... though not, perhaps, as wide as this. I don't usually take things like weight or balance into account when I'm having a good time.

I totally know what you mean about the historical helmet. Absolutely more coverage = better. I was implying that he should be grateful for your generous brim work. You could have given him no noggin cover at all. Looking at it again, the greaves and wide helm give him a very samurai gunslinger look. I like it! The color version was great as well, but I'm a sucker for good line art.

Fantabulous. The Glory of Knighthood revealed!

Inkthinker In reply to ArtofBlake [2007-01-11 00:41:51 +0000 UTC]

Knighthood, thbbt... that's for the nobility. This guy would probably be more like a man-at-arms or something, one of the guys in the mud rather than one of the guys on horses with a full suit of plate.

Screw those guys.

I meant more along the lines of Graham Chapmna, John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle, Terry Jones, and Michael Palin style Knights. If you catch my meaning

haha, he definately does not agree with you. i agree with whoever said the cape took away from the piece. i'm not sure if a full texture is necessary though, maybe a border or some type of bold plain tribal - like a mexican rug cap thing.. i'm not saying that exactly, he definately isn't mexican, just that type of plain texture. otherwise, its pretty damn good. body posture - excellent, shows his frustration and weight. facial expression - excellent, the same. outfit - excellent, ready for anything, only thing he doesn't have is a lantern, lol. this is a damn fine drawing.

Dude. In all honesty, do you have a sketchbook for conventions and whatnot? And where can I get my hands on a copy? I just don't know how you keep churning these out....

The huge blank spot of white that encompasses his cloak could be better mixed into the complexity of the rest of the surrounding attire with a simple pattern of some sort. Maybe this could be covered in colors, but whatevah. Exxxxxxcellent work.

Inkthinker In reply to mochi7 [2004-12-07 20:46:56 +0000 UTC]

I was thinking of plain fabric, stained with mud and dirt from his travels.

Technically that cloak ought to ride outside and over his pack, but then how would we see the carrots?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

mochi7 In reply to Inkthinker [2004-12-07 20:48:23 +0000 UTC]

And the carrots make the peice! hehe
If it's caked in dirt and grim from dungeon-delving, then I retract previous statement, although I'm still the kind of person to add superfluous patterns to things simply for aesthetic reasons.

Hehehehe.. It looks like he's about ready to call it quits and become a hermit farmer on some distant mountain.. *lol* I love all the detail in his backpack.. I kinda' had that same setup when I went backpacking down the Grand Canyon.. Except I didn't look as cool.. *lol*

I was just being silly. I'm sure there's something I could crit, but the good greatly outweighs any bad there may be (and for the record, I don't see anything wrong with it).
