I'll ask! Since Mercury is the god of speed in Greece (noting the wings on his shoes) where do the other mythologies gather from? Very curious to understand and learn!

He's one-eyed and has sort-of-armor on his legs— that's a nod to scandinavian Odin, who is associated with the planet.
The clothes are from Budha graha (a deity of planet Mercury in Puranic mythology) — his color is yellow and one of his attributes is short sword.
The wing-like cape is universal XD — to Mesopotamian god Nabu (though it also fits well with Odin and Mercury). Plus, the Mayans depicted Mercury as an owl (wings again!)
And, finally, the stripes are for Adidas (speed&character XD)
To step away from myths, the weird skin is the result of impact craters, which are unusually frequent on Mercury. Loads of iron details are for the fact that Mercury has more iron than any other planet. The burning insides are for being extremely hot inside and out, and for the planetary core of melted iron-nickel, which sounds equally fantastic and terrifying.
Thanks for asking, it was fun to systemize all the ideas)
