so adorable! I'm sick of how everyone says rodents are "ugly" and "gross" because I think they're alot cuter than cats or dogs, even though cats and dogs are pretty cute and- I'm rambling again XD

Thank you Chinchillagirl!

Its interesting to see how hesitant and jumpy people are when they see my rats for the first time. More people just need to have an open mind!

I know right!? I think it's because wild ones steal food and etc. but that's no reason to say thier hideous. They're so small and cute and innocent looking and alot of people take them as annoying overpopulated pests and don't see that they have different personlities and lives and minds just like people

Well, if you think about it. The little wild critters have to do what they can to survive. Oh, what can you do?

Rats have especially surprised me with their sweet and intelligent personalities. They have learned their names, will come when called, and even follow you around the house!

Yeah, my point exactly. Then people kill them by violently crushing thier heads in mouse traps when they're just trying to keep themselves alive.

They're very intelligent and even more underestimated. Just like donkeys and pack mules who are sometimes more intelligent and loyal than dogs, just stubborn because people work them to death. Anyway, I've had rats and gerbils and hamsters before, I'm a rodent lover =3 now I have some chinchillas who are also intelligent and super adorable ^^

Ohh!!!
I had a pet donkey a couple of years ago! I have a lot of respect for those creatures! They are -very- smart and have a mind of their own which makes them 'seem' stubborn. They are thinking animals that cannot be forced to do something they feel might be scary or harmful to them. They just require patience and understanding.

And how I'd love to have a Chinchilla sometime! they're so cute! Do they bond with their owner?

Donkeys are smart and cute and I've always wanted one SO BAD. There's this true story about a farmer who had a donkey and the donkey fell down a ten-foot deep hole and couldn't get out and the farmer tried a few things to get it out but couldn't, so eventually he was just like "Well he's getting old anyway, might as well give up." and you know what he did? he started trying to BURY IT ALIVE BECAUSE HE THOUGHT IT WAS TOO OLD TO RESCUE. So he started shoveling dirt into the hole and the donkey realized what was going on and started frantically trying to escape and this EVIL farmer ignored it's distressed cries and kept going. After a while the donkey stopped and he got curious as to why, so he looked down to check on it and saw that with every shovel-full of dirt he dropped down, the donkey would step up on top of it and gradually elevate itself to safety. When the hole was filled the donkey trotted away and the farmer watched it, dumbstruck.

...and so the donkey pretty much figured out something that not even a human could figure out because humans have been buried alive and never actually thought of that. Anyway chinchillas do bond with thier owner if you treat them nice and don't pick them up alot before they're used to you. Over time they'll let you pet them, hold them, everything. But not right away, it takes time. Until then just try to socialize and pet them and show that your not going to hurt them. If you have them a while they can sometimes be as loyal as dogs!

That is a very cool story! Animals will surprise humans with their intelligence since we take it for granted that animals can't think.

Aww, little chins! I always heard their fur was amazingly soft too. I've never got to pet one though!

Animals can totally think, they can figure things out sometimes better than people, but sadly no one realizes it.

Thier fur IS amazingly soft. So much they were almost hunted to extinction for it. They are endangered. Sadly theres only 10,000 left in the wild . Luckily, they are illegal to hunt and the population is rising . They come in alot of different fur colors, theres the most common type called "standard grey" which is commonly in pet stores, solid black, black with a white underbelly, Charcoal (very simaliar to grey), brown and white, Sullivan Beige which is this pretty silvery color, but they have red eyes, solid white, pinkish-white, Mosaic which is all white with a few gray spots, whitish-violet, violet, saphire, Blue diamond which are REALLY pretty, and lastly, the most rare color, goldbar which is light blond with a little white.

Some of those are very rare but grey ones are everywhere. If you want one that's not grey or beige then you'll have to resort to finding a breeder because grey and beige are pretty much the only ones you could get in a pet store, sometimes a white one if your lucky. I got my first chinchilla, a beige one named Lightning from a pet store
