This particular farm supplied a lot of the free range eggs sold in South Australia, so yes, it was a fairly large farm.

Yep! The farm was full of vegetation for the chickens to forage through, and surrounded by fox proof fences to keep them safe.

We keep them for eggs, though they are also pets.

Ummm, about eight or ten? I've lost count ^^. We have banty hens that we've been raising for about four years, so we've had a fair share of hens and roosters come and go.

Thanks . I've grown particularly fond of one of our roosters because I was responsible for raising him since he was a late hatch and abandoned by his mother. Lenny's practically like a kid to me ^^. Do you raise other birds too?

Cool . I also have 2 pigeons and 2 Peking ducks. My grandfather raises pigeons and he gave two of them to my sister and I as a present one year.

Yeah, pigeons are really sweet birds. The one pigeon is a rather fortunate or unfortunate fellow depending on your viewpoint. He was attacked by a hawk when we let him out to fly one time, so his tail got messed up. Then, a tornado came through one Easter and pushed a tree on top of his old coop, crushing his old friends and damaging his legs. So, while he isn't in the best shape, he's otherwise pretty mellow. He has a mate who's very protective of him and gentle to him, which is very sweet.
