After all that poll stuff, we gained a new rule!

5 # DO NOT use other Members characters in any way they would NOT act. READ their Profiles!
And DO NOT use them either without their owners permission!
[ you can talk to the OC's owner to arrange any stories about both of your OCs before using them ]

Now, I am fully aware of the story behind how this rule came to pass. HOWEVER, as no explanation was provided, I shall discuss it as if I was as unaware as the rest of y’all.

Rule 5 boils down to “no making gift art/comics/fics.” If you do not have the written approval to use a character in a specific situation, you cannot do so. You must get everything approved to ensure that everything is 100% in character.

No gift art. No cameo in your fanfic. No background filler. No nothing.

You must write any and everyone up who is going to be in something you do or else you are breaking the club’s rules and, I assume, at risk of being banned.

This is a problem for me.

Quite regularly, I’ll be working on a comic and I’ll realize that a panel would look better with a crowd shot or that seeker abuse would be a funny way to start a comic or something along those lines. When I have one of those moments, I quite literally go down the Club’s list and pick people who I have not drawn before.

Why, pray tell, do I do this? ‘Cause it is fun, really. I enjoy drawing people and designs that are different than my own.

Plus, I personally feel like having a variety of people who are sort of just passing through makes my comics feel more realistic. If I made up my own background characters, then it’d be the same gaggle of folks in every comic. By mixing things up, it feels – to me – like there is an actual big ol’ base full of people that my character comes into contact with and the degrees of closeness vary. Not everyone is your best friend who you see every day. We’ve got big ol’ lists of characters so why not used them? If you need a braggart, find a braggart. If you need a dainty medic, find a dainty medic. It’s all there.

Not to mention that it’s just something nice to do, y’know? I enjoy drawing OCs from people I’ve never met before ‘cause more often than not we end up having nice conversations. It’s how I make friends

AS SUCH, I’D LIKE TO ANNOUNCE THAT I DID NOT ASK ANYONE IN THIS COMIC FOR PERMISSION TO USE THEIR CHARACTER IN A PICTURE.

I ALSO DID NOT READ THEIR BIOS ( WHICH IS WHAT I ASSUME IS MEANT BY “ PROFILE ” ) AND BASED THEIR ENTIRE PERSONALIES AROUND THEIR REFERENCE PICTURES.

I HAVE NO IDEA IF SHADOWBLADE IS ACTUALLY A MISOGYNIST BUT I MADE HIM ACT THAT WAY BECAUSE I THOUGHT IT WOULD BE FUNNY.

‘Cause, seriously guys, it’s free art. I mean, I’ve read fics with Galeforce that were literally so bad I could not force myself to finish reading them. I’m not saying she did fall head over heels for someone’s character and I’m not saying she didn’t. Either way, the fic is out there if anyone wants to try to find it. I'm not gonna pitch a fit about it ‘cause it is free stuff and it makes me happy that my character has got enough attention to get put into other folks works at all.

I get wanting a heads up on anything for serious, like a big ol’ fight or a love story. That I get. Of course, I would like to point everyone to Respect Her Authoritah . I didn’t tell anyone that I was making that picture but everyone involved was really cool about it. They were all really excited and made some nifty art goodies. Just check out the links in my artist’s comments on that picture and you can see that it was fun.

All and all, if someone does something unexpectedly to you , then be cool. Use it for inspiration .

And if you just really don’t want to see your character drawn or written by someone else, don’t join a club more or less dedicated to blending a wide variety of OCs stories together. In fact, don’t even post your OC online. That way no one could even know enough about them to reference them in any capacity.

To me, joining an art/story club is giving your permission to have your character used for the sake of fun and games. However, I am always enthusiastic about the potential for discussion so, please, fire away!
