Jer: "I understand if you're not good at this yet but-,"
Hugh: "DAMMIT NICHOLAS!"
Jer: "Huh? Yeah, what?" *glances over*
Hugh: "Look, you can stay here bitching my ear off all day if you like, but you're gonna need to lend a fucking hand every once in a while shit-for-brains. Pass me the damn wrench"
Jer: "Oh, sure, no problem"

These two have a pretty interesting dynamic. Both come from poverty, talk in a lot of slang, can be vulgar/crass af and they tend to get into occasional fist-fights with each-other. It makes it every easy to assume the pair hates one other, but quite the opposite is true. They're actually really good friends. Whenever the crew is getting on Jer's nerves he likes to hole himself up in the engine room with Hugh and bitch for a good few hours where no one can overhear. Hugh has a tiny ass lil cot in there where he stays the vast majority of the time, partially because he likes being near the mechanics of the ship just in case she ever needs anything and partially because it's super warm down there
