Description 11x17in oil on linen.

A few hours after my teacher told me to paint the mouse mug I'm holding white, my roommate broke it. It was my favorite mug ever.
Because of my stubborn Taurusness I refused to paint over it. Poor Christmas mice.

Nice work.

You said "Because of my stubborn Taurusness I refused to paint over it." This struck me because I am Taurus too, Aries rising. I don't have a clue what that means, I respect astrology, but I don't live and breathe it. I fact I have no idea about it.

But your statement caught my attention. A lot of my work is about finding that good place, and being done with it. It is not about perfection, it is about completion of my intent. Once all the symbols are in place, who cares if some detail isn't perfect.

But more importantly, as time goes by in my life, I look at old work from 15 to 20 years ago and see those bits that I could improve on today, but I refuse, because they are what they are now, and I couldn't bear to touch them again. So i guess this Taurus can relate to that Taurus, and these similarities always startle me. I mean, we can't be all alike, can we?

Well.. Cheers fellow Taurus!! When is your birthday? I'm an Aries rising too.. My b-day is April 26th.

It's true though.. I definitely look back at imperfections in my work from even a few months ago and could change them, but screw it. They are what they are!!! As long as you learn from them I guess. And when I feel like the piece is in a good enough place.. Then I too will let it be. Sometimes I'm just too sick of working on it. haha.

April 21st is mine.

Even my recent stuff that i finished weeks or month ago, I look at them and think "I should probably fix that" but I am always compelled to move on, plus, if I call it finished, its just another notch on my easel. I also need to realize that most viewers will not be as hyper critical as I am about my art. I think dA and a recent flop of an art showing have exacerbated this neurosis. But now that I am talking with more dedicated, intelligent folks around here, I am starting to realize that I am hardly unique. Most of the artist I have spoken with have the same generic dreams and fears about their work as I do. Its slowly bringing back the humility and sense of purpose I felt when painting in total isolation.

A fellow taureen (if thats the word for it?. . . now hoping you are talking about the star sign?)

i really like your work, especially this one, the colours in all of your work are magnificent. I love your attension to detail without over working anything. To me the mug jumps out at you from the painting due to your use of contrasting colours, a fantastic piece of work.

I think from a visual point of view it would have worked better as a white mug. But from a personal point of view I can totally understand leaving it the way it is. Excellent work as always.
I have to say, the colours that you use seem a little dull, is that because of the photo or is it a conceptual choice (if so what are they?) or maybe you are using student grade oils? If it is the last one I suggest you invest in some better quality paints (just a couple of small tubes, like red blue and yellow - as I notice you use a lot of prime colours in your work), as it will really push the impressiveness of your work a up a notch.
