Legend has it that He-Man & The Masters of the Universe was originally conceived as a toy line for the 1982 film version of Conan the Barbarian but Mattel got cold feet when they saw how dark & edgy the film was so they turned it into He-Man & the MOTU. Mattel however denies this, even though some of the early He-Man artwork does have an undeniable Frank Frazetta Conan vibe.Β
