I'm a big fan of the Shadow. I hope someday a real edgy version of him shows up in the movies

Same here.
Till then, Dynamite comics can help wet our appetites.
Personally I also wouldn't mind dynamite comics doing a Darkman comic since they did a crossover already.
Next to dark wing, the spider and batman, he's my fav Expie of The Shadow.

I'd love to educate ya on some of it, like Indiana jones and the rocketeer are pulp heroes.

Indy is based on pulp heroes....as is the Rocketeer. But they are not true examples of Pulp era characters. I thought you meant the ones from that time

If they ever do a movie, I would like they make it more horror instead of adventure... think "the silence of the lambs" or "Hannibal" (the tv series please). Β
I mean, the guys who help the Shadow are terrified of him... and they are his allies!

The tone would likely be better because of that

The original dark knight. He is also referred to canonically in and outside comics as the inspiration for Batman and his methods...outside of guns. the two have met before. Once when he was a kid before joe chill killed his parents and then other times in later years. The Grey Ghost was a parody of that relationship in the cartoon.
i am a fan of both, I based my OC character of of both...but I like the shadow and his outfit and style more.

The movie they did back in the early 90s was a really good period piece; it deserved better than it got.

Maybe someone should do a remake of it. Β Give it the "Batman Begins" treatment.

yeah, too bad Baldwin was so badly miscast as him in the movie...but then I think the Shadow worked best on the radio...

Inspector97 In reply to blackjamie [2014-07-15 21:46:52 +0000 UTC]
I think it would have worked....he was great in the films openning...but Lemont and the scenes written for Baldwin where campy and or cheesy

I know, I think they changed directions in mid script, it's been a long time since I saw the film, I can't remember how many got writing credit.

I have this little rule of thumb...if more that three people get writing credit at the beginning, the odds are, its gonna be at the very least a dismal experience...

what's worse is when the producers just buy a novel for the title, and the movie doesn't resemble the book in any way shape or form.

it's like the Bogie Bacall movie "The To Have and Have Not", essentially used the title of the Hemingway story, and nothing else.

blackjamie In reply to Inspector97 [2014-07-26 14:23:30 +0000 UTC]
still its a good movie, but I'm a bit prejudiced, I'm a big Bogie fan.

blackjamie In reply to Inspector97 [2014-07-26 15:12:12 +0000 UTC]
yep, they had something special, Bogie, Cagney, Eddie G., Mitchum, and the Duke, only one who comes close these days is DeNiro, maybe Pachino.

Inspector97 In reply to blackjamie [2014-07-26 15:21:06 +0000 UTC]
Well they are seasoned actors now.....so I'm not sure you can call them actors of "these days" but I get your point
