Description TRIGGER WARNING: 3 EDGY 5 ME and SOME MISTAKES IN SPELLING AND GRAMMAR DONE.

welp this has to be the longest comic i did...
im gonna be back working on fully-polished illustrations after i return from being gone.

Weelll, I know Im gonna be on a sort of hiatus, due to irl stuff DX
I'm leaving this loooong ass comic to idk... placate ppl in the time being

So, in TOUGH... Everyone has issues and I'd like to explore a character that is supposed to be
a major player in the...plot???
And that's Mary. Or at least my interpretation of her.

Now, Mary is supposed to be Kitty's foil. Both worked under TOUGH and when it comes to potential and sheer
skill in tracking down crooks and killing ppl, Mary definitely outclassed Kitty. But Mary does not have the mental
strength to handle the stress of being an agent, while Kitty's resolve is ridiculously strong, allowing her to
endure the pressure that comes with her work.

On top of that, Tom isn't really the person that ppl should turn to if they feel guilty about taking lives...
Also, only in when he's alone with Mary, Tom does emote. XD

So yeah, this is a glimpse of Mary's time before she chose to quit TOUGH and focus in growing life instead of killing em.

This is so amazing, Crayon. The art, the drama, the dialogue, the expressions... It's all done incredibly. I really like the dynamic between Tom and Mary. It's true that Tom isn't the best person to talk to when it comes to these kinds of problems, but it's really good to see more of his concerned side. He brought about a scariness to him at the end, this is true, but there was sort of a weird softness to his character at the same time. You can tell Tom has a heart... He's just not the role model type in such situations, especially in Mary's case. He defiantly made a point about her, though. Mary seems to enjoy killing bad people (or at least feels a twisted sense of justice in doing so), as much it disgusts her to admit that.

You're right about Mary relishing in the deaths of bad people, despite of going against her morals. :c

It's funny that I originally intended Mary in TOUGH to be some kind of anti-hero who got fed up with
St. Petston's huge crime rate and TOUGH's corruption within, she secretly became a vigilante,
which can be an contrast to Tom's own secret life. Two lovers with secret allegiances to opposite sides can
give some interesting situations XD

That idea got scrapped tho, but I kept most of her intended backstory, part of it is shown in this comic.
Pretty ironic tho, that Mary is confiding her guilt towards killing people to Tom of all people, who's pretty
much okay with it lol. At least he tries his best to comfort her in his own way.

It can be probable tho that he's projecting his own internalized guilt to her... As in he's telling her stuff that
he wanted to tell himself deep inside.

Mary's path to darkness.

That original concept sounds very interesting to me, and I'm glad that you kept some of it in your current story. It really builds upon Mary and Tom's kindred yet unhealthy relationship.

While Tom manipulating Mary to accept her inner darkness rather than have her get help for it was questionable (Sidious: Dew it!!), it also brings about how he too was feeling. That's why he seemed a little uneasy in this comic: He was experiencing what she had been through, and he finally found someone who knew how he felt. He appreciated that. He didn't feel as conflicted when somebody did what she would have in his shoes, so he didn't want her to change.

I must say, Crayon, you're really good when it comes to psychological characters and the depth of their inner feelings. That's a very impressive trait for a writer. ^^

With all her skills in hunting, determination and dedication towards making a shitty, lawless, crime-ridden hellhole a better place for people, Mary seems to be all set to be TOUGH's undisputed best agent. The only thing that brought her out of commission is having a (metaphoric) heart.
It only shows that not all people has the mental fortitude to be agents/cops/soldiers/superheroes?.

It doesn't help that Tom actually wanted her to break down and expose her vulnerabilities to him; that's where shit gets creepy :c
I really wanted to not only show a bit more of Mary's story, but also underscore her more sinister side and her borderline disturbing
dynamic with Tom.

That... Really bring a a whole new perspective between these two but mostly Mary, life is tough and many people can suffer in different ways like her.
The guilt that's building up is breaking mentally but she should know there's people that care her but unfortunately her fate is already established sadly.

There is a reason why TOUGH AU Mary is an alcoholic recluse who runs a flower shop...
She could have received proper care for her issues, but Tom actually wanted her to be that way. :c

idk I just wanted to establish Mary's character. :-/

Now this further proves Tom's true colors there, he may look like he care but deep down he actually wants her broken like everyone I think. :/

The way you did it is actually pretty good, this shows that not everyone is cut out for action.

yeah, Tom prefers broken things, that he can remake to his liking. 0-0

tbh I can't really say that he loves her, as far as the traditional meaning
of romance is concerned.

tru dat!

He seems like a guy who breaks something that's already broken but makes it worse then ever.
Where's her many friends when she needs the- Oh right Tom took "care" most of them, especially one certain friend.

If this makes sense, considering his inner thoughts and how psychopaths can't to truly love someone... I further question Mary's choice, she might end up better off with Ruckus honestly.

Indeed!

I do like crime stories like this, on the edge of a mental collaps.
