I seem to be one of very few aviation photographs that actually likes and sometimes even prefers to shoot in cloudy conditions. Sunshine makes for colourful and sharp images, and of course makes photography easier, but clouds create drama and atmosphere in a way that sunshine simply cannot. Clouds create a sombre mood that is somehow far more appropriate for fighting machines.
Certainly some of my best images have been in less than pleasant conditions. Besides, if I had nothing but aircraft in front of blue skies in my gallery it would make for a very dull gallery indeed.

The clouds were actually neat to get better colors on the aircraft. I prefer cloudy conditions for my macro flower work as it makes the colors more vibrant. Although it did make for an interesting challenge for the first time using a 100-400 lens.
