i keep wishing to do more classical sculpting, but i always fear messing up. do you have any book showing the techniques? i'm especialy interested in how to clean the sculpts

no books but there's plenty of dvds out there showing the smoothing [Jordu from Gnomon, Jordu from Stan Winston, etc]... it's all about constantly raking, brushing on alcohol or some other smoothing agent [depends on the clay] and raking again, redoing detail, brushing and raking The more layers of that you do the better it'll look in the end... Sth I learned is not to be too shy about it... just go for it, you can always refine the details again if you take them down too much... it's a constant to and fro but I'm still a noob so I'm still learning.
