Description So here are my thoughts at this moment. I'm tired of the media, the market, and everything else, all of it pinpointing sex, and the male sex drive, as a weakness, and how they exploit this weakness in order to fulfill their own greed. I hate it. I hate how abundant it is. It's all over television, magazines, clothing doesn't help. Everyone buys into it.

Then I think. This is probably how it's been for thousands of years. This is the ultimate prize. This is the deus ex machina to pleasure, the absolute ultimate and top end to all things good and everything is defined as such. Men have always sought women. Men will continue to seek women. Women are what drive us, what move us to be better.
But sex.. Sex seems to be completely apart from women. I mean, Women are definitely a component in sex, and definitely something to be considered. But really. When you watch a commercial about girls gone wild, watch a sex scene in a movie, see pornography... it's not about her. Or about them. It's about -it-. It. Think about that. 'It'. That's what sells.

And so many buy into it. It is an industry. It is a way of life. And that's just how it is, I guess. It is our human instinct, engraved in our muscles and in our veins. We cannot avoid it, we cannot deny it.. It is simply who we are.
That being said, I refuse to buy in.. I'm so tired of it. Call me desensitized. I don't find sex all that appealing. Maybe its the late hour speaking. But the absolute carnal fashion of this matter just disgusts me. I can't help thinking about it, but I don't desire it.. I don't want it.

I want something else. It's not necessarily love.. No, I want a companion. A partner. Chew on that for a bit. Partner, Companion. These terms are often overlooked, like they are only allowed for sermons and HIV pamphlets. But I want someone to be there at my side, be there when I need them, to take care of me. And likewise, I would support them, I would sustain them, and provide for them.

I want to learn self-control, because I admit, I lack in the department.

I want out of this skin and into another mind. I want to understand.

Well this thing called pornography has been going on for centuries. It's been going on in different cultures. Though I see that society has made things much worse. Now I know it's human nature for humans to have sex for pleasure instead of reproduction. But I don't like the horrible things that still happen in the porn industry. I especially hate that they're exposing more of the extreme pornography and leading people into such falseness and emptiness. I don't know what to do about it. Only humans can decide if they want to make the changes. It is up to them to fight or boycott. Though I won't deny that people who do porn are actually the ones to blame. I blame that it was a decision they made to allow themselves to be treated like objects instead of human beings. That is why there's the abused and abusers.Β

don't get me wrong, love and sex are beautiful things. what makes me angry is that society has tainted and perverted their image to such an extreme by making it such a massive market. they're targeting our human nature as a weak point and exploiting our biological urges with false promises and suggestive emptiness to line their pockets with gold.

thanks for reading! good to hear other people's thoughts.

I just read your comment and I said the same sort of thing. I agree with you all the way. I don't like what society has done to make sex look like a rough masochistic thing. Humans don't need to be mind controlled or brainwashed by that shit. It's totally messed up. But I take my blame on the porn stars for being weak for they allowed themselves to be abused and some chose to become the abusers. They're responsible for creating hardcore and masochism in the sex industry. Sex is suppose to be a nourishment and cherished act. Not a torture and a traumatic act.Β

Just to be clear... porn stars are not abused victims, nor are they weak or bad people. They are actors, plain and simple.Β Porn is not a bad thing, necessarily.
But this piece was not about pornography. It was about how the media and advertising uses sex as a mechanism to sell their otherwise unrelated product. It feels (and is) simply dishonest and frankly exploitative to make use of such marketing techniques.

I was in a much different place when I wrote this piece -- 6.5 years ago (wow) -- than I am now, but I find that I feel pretty much the same way, though I found it somewhat alarming that someone might interpret it like you have. Sex IS a violent and primal instinct that everyone shares. That can't really be denied. It's likewise beautiful, though, too! It's a joy and a pleasure, and finding that special someone to share all these things with is one of the greater things life has to offer.

Not having that can lead to some crushing loneliness, which is kind of where I was at the time. Porn is actually a great way of fending off that creeping loneliness, for a brief time at least.
Now I'm pretty happily married, so my point of view has changed quite a bit. Regardless,Β I never intended my piece to come across as bashing the porn industry I don't think. Pornography isn't trying to hide what they're selling. I appreciate that bit of honesty. I can, however, understand why this piece would be interpreted as such.

Well some porn stars are abused victims. Not all but some are. I've heard of some terrible stories like this one young woman who did porn and said that she felt respected and satisfied from the beginning. But eventually when her agent had lead her to the wrong place, she got beaten, spat on, degraded and raped. After what she went through she never did porn again. Believe me, I don't mind if people want to have sex in front of the camera. It's their life. It's their bodies. I respect that. But I don't agree with people who deliberately abuse someone on porn set. It's disgusting.

I also do not agree with abuse. It's bad.. That's really neither here nor there though.

I'm calling you a genius, my friend, because genius is another term for above the average, soaringly high as a matter of fact. The only sad part about this piece is it is considered genius. It is not a norm, and will most likley never be such. I doubt there will ever be an expectency of such decent and logical and dignified mannerisms such as this, because as the industry says: Sex sells. But I can't help but wonder why no one seems to realize you don't have to buy...

You make an excelent point, my friend, and show that some people still use that mass of tissue in there head. I tip my hat to you.

my goodness, thank you so much for the kind words!! i'm glad you agree so strongly on the subject, it's good to know I'm not the only one who feels this way.

The feeling is mutual, and hopefully your poem will help bring more people into agreement on the topic. If anything else it will stir a few minds.

You deserved every word, and I thank you for voiceing your outrage on this. Maybe if more people spoke it wouldn't be as common a thing.

I completely agree with this sentiment. Nice to see I'm not the only one to see things at such a perspective. Kudos.

i'm glad you feel the same way. i'd like to hear a woman's perspective on it.

It would be interesting to write about a woman's perspective on the topic. Maybe I'll try it sometime.
