Earth Twilight didn't have magic till film number 4 so magic is something obtainable within the EQG world and considering who Trixie's pony counterpart is it makes sense that she'd eventually gain magical abilities. In this image the general idea was the book being the earth equivalent of the alicorn amulet and thus enhancing her repressed powers.
